Our Client Value Management team is looking to strengthen its outsourced engineering capability Senior Back-End Engineers. These professionals will play a critical role in designing, developing, testing, and deploying complex, scalable software solutions that support customer value management initiatives within a modern telecommunications ecosystem. The successful candidates will be experienced software engineers with strong telecommunications domain knowledge, capable of building cloud-native applications, integrating with multiple OSS/BSS platforms, and developing reusable digital capabilities. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines, AI-enabled development technologies, and enterprise-grade cloud-native architectures. We are particularly interested in candidates who have gained experience within leading telecommunications organizations such as MTN, Vodacom, Telkom, Huawei , or similar telecommunications and connectivity-focused environments. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and deploy high-performance backend applications and services. Build scalable and resilient cloud-native solutions leveraging microservices architectures. Design and develop RESTful APIs and OpenAPI-compliant services. Drive integration initiatives across OSS/BSS platforms and digital service ecosystems. Develop reusable business capabilities and service components rather than relying solely on modifications of legacy Tier-1 systems. Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid and reliable software delivery. Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, product teams, and engineering squads to deliver customer-centric solutions. Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, highly available, and optimized for performance. Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to engineering best practices. Leverage emerging technologies, including AI-enabled development tools and modern engineering platforms, to accelerate delivery and improve software quality. Required Technical Skills Core Technologies Strong Java development experience. REST API design and development. OpenAPI specifications and API-first development. Cloud-native engineering principles. Microservices architecture. Kubernetes. Containerization technologies (Docker and related platforms). CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging patterns. Software Engineering Object-oriented design and development. Distributed systems engineering. Performance optimization and scalability. Automated testing and quality engineering practices. Secure coding principles and API security. Telecommunications Domain Experience (Essential) Integration is a critical component of modern telecommunications engineering. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience operating within complex telecom ecosystems where interoperability, standards compliance, and multi-vendor integration are essential. Candidates should have experience working with: Telecom OSS/BSS platforms. Digital service and customer management ecosystems. Enterprise integration architectures. API management and governance frameworks. Multi-channel connectivity environments. Key Telecom Knowledge Areas API & Integration Engineering RESTful and event-driven integration patterns. API lifecycle management and governance. Service interoperability across digital platforms. Design of reusable services and capabilities. Partner and third-party system integrations. Connectivity Ecosystems Experience supporting and integrating solutions across: Mobile Networks Fibre to the Home (FTTH) Fixed Line Services Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) Satellite Connectivity Platforms Candidates should understand that different connectivity domains utilize varying protocols, platforms, and integration approaches and must be capable of designing solutions that operate seamlessly across these environments. OSS/BSS Knowledge Requirements Successful candidates should demonstrate practical experience across multiple telecom domains, including: Order Management Service Provisioning Charging and Billing Customer Management Product Catalogue Management Service Fulfilment Inventory Management Customer Value Management Digital Channels and Self-Service Platforms Candidates lacking exposure to OSS/BSS environments may find it challenging to operate effectively within an MVNO or complex telecommunications ecosystem. Preferred Experience Telecommunications industry experience (essentially preferred). Experience in MVNO environments. Exposure to modern digital transformation programmers. Experience building greenfield capabilities and services. Large-scale enterprise integration experience. Exposure to AI-enabled engineering practices and developer productivity tools. Experience working within Agile delivery environments. Qualifications Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field. Relevant cloud, Kubernetes, Java, or telecommunications certifications will be advantageous
