Slice (NielsenIQ) is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Engineering team. You will work on Java-based public web services and contribute to the evolution of our high-volume, distributed infrastructure that powers data extraction, classification, and low-latency delivery to consumer and partner applications. Our team focuses on scalability, resilience, architectural excellence, and building systems that operate reliably at massive scale. As a senior engineer, you will help design, optimize, and extend mission-critical components that drive Slice’s core platform. Roles and Responsibilities Serve as a recognized expert in software design, architecture, and performance optimization across the domain. Lead end-to-end design and implementation of critical, high-impact systems with a focus on long-term scalability and maintainability. Define, document, and enforce system-wide design patterns, coding standards, and architectural principles. Architect and integrate scalable, event-driven, and resilient distributed systems for high-volume, low-latency workloads. Solve complex challenges in high-availability and fault-tolerant architectures, driving improvements in reliability and throughput. Design and evolve API contracts with backward compatibility, extensibility, and cross-service interoperability. Define and implement observability and telemetry strategies to ensure deep insight into system behavior and performance. Apply polyglot persistence principles by choosing optimal data storage technologies for varied use cases. Work with cloud-based architectures and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi) to improve deployment reliability and efficiency. Establish scalable automated testing frameworks and quality gates used across multiple engineering teams. Drive DevOps excellence by improving automation, strengthening security, and advancing operational best practices. Conduct deep design and code reviews, ensuring alignment with engineering excellence standards. Collaborate with product and engineering teams to resolve architectural dependencies and align system roadmaps. Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and patterns to enhance engineering efficiency and platform performance. Incorporate AI-assisted analysis to explore architectural alternatives and improve component design. Lead domain-level CI/CD modernization efforts, introduce secure-by-default patterns, and drive adoption of automated quality and security tooling. You have at least 6+ years of experience building production software and a degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering. You are an expert software developer in a Java environment. You have outstanding strategic thinking and strong analytical and communication skills. You are good at spoken and written English. Technical Skills: Expert knowledge of Java developing and debugging. Excellent knowledge of multi-threading programming. Experience with both SQL and/or NoSQL data stores. Good understanding of Hibernate and other JPA-related technologies. Experience with rapid iteration development methodologies. Development of clean and robust code. Experience in implementing complex algorithms and logic. A mazon Web Services knowledge and experience preferred. Experience with cloud-based code build and deployment process preferred (Jenkins, AWS, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes).
