What you will do: Reporting to the Controller, responsibilities for this position include the following: Lead month-end and period-end close activities, including inventory and margin calculations, accruals, journal entries, and account analysis. Supervise, mentor, and review the work of a team of Junior Accountants. Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations, including bank, prepaid expense, and accounts receivable reconciliations. Prepare monthly tax filings and respond to tax audits and inquiries. Participate in and coordinate year-end audit activities, including the preparation of working papers and reconciliations. Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and related reporting. Conduct internal audits, including physical inventory audits and compliance reviews to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures. Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules. Analyze financial results and variances, providing meaningful insights and recommendations to management. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities. Develop and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting procedures. Support system implementations, process improvement initiatives, and special projects as required. Partner with business leaders to provide financial guidance and support operational decision-making. Contribute to the Team in living the Corporate Values of Integrity, Community and Excellence. Who you are: You are looking for a career in Finance and: 3-5 years previous accounting experience. University Degree or 2-year college diploma, ideally with an accounting major. Accounting Designation or enrolled in an Accounting Designation program is preferred. Proficient in a variety of computer applications, including MS Office Suite and strong knowledge of Excel. Experience with JDE or other ERP system considered an asset. Understanding of Federal and Provincial tax application in a retail & petroleum sales environment is an asset. Must work within strict confidentially guidelines. Ability to deal with a diverse and fast paced work schedule and to work with a sense of urgency. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team Must be committed to a SAFE working environment.
