ABOUT THE ROLE As an Associate Data Engineer at Indicium AI, you will join a team of data practitioners building scalable, reliable data solutions for leading organisations across Europe. Working within client engagements, you will contribute to the design and development of data pipelines, support data integration projects, and grow your expertise under the guidance of experienced engineers. This is an opportunity to establish strong data engineering fundamentals while making a tangible impact on clients' data platforms from day one. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Data Ingestion & Integration Contribute to data ingestion workflows, pulling from relational and NoSQL databases, REST APIs, and flat files with attention to data quality and consistency. Pipeline Development Support the design and development of ELT pipelines, following team standards and data engineering best practices. Assist with monitoring pipeline executions across cloud and on-premises environments, escalating issues as appropriate. Storage & Warehousing Assist in implementing and maintaining data storage solutions including Data Warehouses and Data Lakes. Write and optimise SQL queries to support downstream analytics and reporting use cases. Collaboration & Documentation Work closely with cross-functional teams — analysts, engineers, and client stakeholders — to understand requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions. Maintain clear documentation for pipelines, data models, and processes, contributing to a culture of engineering rigour. Learning & Growth Actively engage with DevOps and DataOps practices, absorbing team patterns around CI/CD, version control, and code review. SQL: Solid intermediate SQL — comfortable with joins, aggregations, and window functions. Version Control: Working knowledge of Git via GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket. dbt: Basic familiarity with dbt — models, sources, and the test/documentation workflow. Cloud: Foundational understanding of at least one public cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) Software Engineering Fundamentals: Basic understanding of data structures and algorithms. Soft Skills & Language Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced consulting environment. Strong written and spoken English. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
