Role Summary As Director of Engineering, you will set the technical vision and architectural direction for CloudFactory's engineering organization, ensuring our software delivery is scalable, reliable, and aligned with business strategy. You will partner with senior business leadership on technology strategy, lead and develop engineering leaders and teams, and oversee quality, security, and compliance standards across the organization. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape CloudFactory's engineering future while contributing to a mission-driven organization. Please note: This is a full-time, fixed-term employee position with an expected duration of 6 months . Responsibilities: Engineering vision and strategy Define the product and engineering vision that guides software development priorities across all teams. Set the long-term technology vision for the organization, partnering with business leadership on technology strategy. Monitor industry trends and identify potentially disruptive technologies that could significantly impact the software landscape. Technology and architecture leadership Make final decisions on technology adoption and select the technology stack used across engineering. Define architectural principles that guide design decisions across projects within the organization. Champion best practices for architecture and design, and review high-level architecture decisions for alignment with the overall technology vision. Organization-wide software delivery Oversee software delivery across all engineering teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives and timelines. Manage stakeholder expectations regarding product development timelines. Oversee communication and collaboration with external technology providers and dependencies. Quality, reliability, and security Define quality standards that engineering teams must adhere to during development and testing. Invest in testing tools, infrastructure, and monitoring systems, and oversee the development of disaster recovery plans. Define security policies and compliance goals for the engineering organization, and manage the technology budget to support secure coding training and compliance efforts. Partner with legal and security teams to ensure a comprehensive approach to security and compliance. People leadership and talent development Lead and motivate engineering teams to achieve high performance, developing clear performance goals aligned with organizational objectives. Implement talent management initiatives, such as training programs and mentorship opportunities, to build organizational capability. Build a strong talent pipeline to support the organization's future engineering needs. Process and continuous improvement Define key engineering metrics and tie them to business goals, monitoring overall trends in team productivity. Allocate and prioritize resources for process improvement initiatives that will yield the most significant benefits. Communicate process changes clearly and effectively across the organization. Requirements Must-have skills (required) Extensive experience in software engineering, including significant experience leading engineering teams and departments. Proven track record setting technical vision and architectural principles across multiple teams or an entire engineering organization. Strong experience selecting and evaluating technology stacks, and managing complex external technology dependencies and vendor relationships. Deep understanding of software quality, testing infrastructure, and monitoring practices at scale. Experience defining and managing security policies, compliance programs, and technology budgets. Strong people leadership skills, with a track record building high-performing engineering teams and talent pipelines. Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to manage expectations with senior business leadership regarding product and technology timelines. Strategic mindset, able to align technology decisions with overall business objectives. Academic and professional requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree a plus. 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 3+ years in a senior engineering leadership role. Nice-to-have skills (preferred) Experience leading engineering teams in a global, distributed organization. Experience with cloud-native and AI/ML-adjacent technology stacks. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
