Our teams work together across 6 continents with passion and relentless curiosity in order to help patients at every stage of life. Joining our Healthcare team is becoming part of a diverse, inclusive and flexible working culture, presenting great opportunities for personal development and career advancement across the globe. Your role: In this role, you will design, prototype, build, and evolve software applications that enable advanced AI solutions within the Advanced Data Science team in the Data Sciences organization. You will rapidly translate scientific and business needs into functioning prototypes and progressively develop successful concepts into robust, maintainable, and scalable applications for pharmaceutical Research & Development. Working closely with scientists, business stakeholders, Applied AI Engineers, machine learning experts, the Frontend and UX Engineer, and the Lead Applied AI Engineer, you will contribute across the complete application stack. You will develop proof-of-concept applications that allow new AI-enabled workflows to be tested quickly with users, while designing them with a clear path toward validation, deployment, and sustainable use. You will build backend services, APIs, user-facing application components, data-access layers, workflow logic, state-management mechanisms, and integrations with scientific tools, enterprise services, and approved AI capabilities. You will connect large language models, agentic workflows, analytical models, and enterprise data sources into coherent applications that users can interact with and evaluate. You will take end-to-end engineering ownership of solutions across their lifecycle, moving fluidly between rapid prototyping and production-grade software development. As use cases mature, you will strengthen their architecture, testing, security, performance, observability, error handling, auditability, and maintainability. You will ensure that applications remain reliable even when AI models, tools, or external services behave unpredictably. You will establish and apply strong software engineering practices, including modular design, version control, automated testing, code review, CI/CD, containerization, logging, monitoring, and technical documentation. You will promote the reuse of software components and application patterns across use cases without slowing down early experimentation. You will work in close partnership with IT architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and platform teams. Your role will focus on the rapid development and engineering of use-case-specific AI applications, complementing IT ownership of shared platforms, enterprise infrastructure, identity and access management, cybersecurity controls, production environments, and long-term operational services. Staying current with modern full-stack development, cloud-native architectures, and AI application engineering, you will help the team demonstrate value quickly to users while ensuring that successful prototypes can become secure, scalable, and sustainable enterprise applications. Location: Israel Who you are: You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related technical discipline. You have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in full-stack or backend software engineering, including the development of both rapid prototypes and production-grade applications. You possess a proven ability to translate ambiguous user needs into functioning software prototypes and progressively evolve them into robust and maintainable solutions. You have strong expertise in backend application development, APIs, databases, service-oriented architectures, and enterprise integration patterns. You have hands-on experience with modern frontend technologies and can independently develop complete user-facing applications when required. You have strong programming experience in Python and practical experience with one or more modern frontend or backend technology stacks. You have experience integrating applications with multiple data sources, external services, analytical models, AI systems, or enterprise applications. You are comfortable building lightweight prototypes rapidly while making appropriate architectural decisions for solutions that may progress toward broader deployment. You have practical experience with relational and non-relational databases, data modelling, workflow state, caching, asynchronous processing, and event-driven application patterns. You are experienced with modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, code review, version control, CI/CD, containerization, observability, and cloud-based deployment. You understand application security principles, including authentication, authorization, secure API design, secrets management, data protection, and auditability. You have experience designing resilient applications with appropriate error handling, retry mechanisms, fallback behaviours, and monitoring. You are comfortable integrating probabilistic and non-deterministic AI components into reliable software applications. You collaborate effectively with AI engineers, machine learning scientists, UX specialists, business stakeholders, and enterprise IT teams. You possess strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills and can translate complex requirements into clear technical implementations. Experience in pharmaceutical R&D, healthcare, life sciences, or another regulated environment is considered an advantage. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
