What to expect The Applied Meteorology Department conducts research on thunderstorms, wake vortices, noise, wind energy, gravity waves, and turbulence. On the one hand, the goal is to understand and predict the relevant dynamic processes in the boundary layer and the upper atmosphere. On the other hand, the department develops analysis and forecast products tailored for aviation and wind energy, bringing them to the point of practical application. The goal of this position is to advance the development of very short-term thunderstorm forecasts (nowcasting) from the academic research stage to practical application in the innovative air mobility. To this end, adjustments will be made to existing forecasting tools, particularly with regard to the requirements of innovative air mobility, such as the spatiotemporal resolution, forecast horizon, and technical usability.
