About the role: - As a Software Engineer (Backend), you will drive the design and development of backend systems that support the Tax Information Reporting Suite (TIRS) and Core Services. You will lead backend engineering efforts, build scalable and reliable services, and ensure highquality technical delivery. - In this role, you will own backend architecture, data processing workflows, and integrations across platforms. You will work closely with product, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams to enable smooth releases, effective deployments, and effective production support. - You will guide technical decisions, mentor team members, and promote best practices in coding, performance, security, and automation. This position offers a strong opportunity to deepen backend expertise while shaping modern, enterprisegrade solutions in a fastpaced environment. What you will be doing - Must Have - Actively participate in release planning and sprint planning, collaborating with stakeholders on scope and priorities - Independently design, develop, and enhance backend components and services - Write and maintain unit tests to ensure code quality and reliability - Debug production and nonproduction issues quickly and deliver timely fixes - Understand, enhance, and develop SQL queries and stored procedures - Ensure delivery of highquality, reliable, and maintainable software - Follow established coding standards, best practices, and quality controls - Communicate progress, risks, and challenges clearly with the team - Nice to Have - Contribute to backend performance tuning and scalability improvements - Mentor junior engineers and promote best engineering practices - Drive continuous improvement initiatives and explore modern tooling and innovations What you bring: - Must Have - Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience - 3-6 years of handson backend development experience using Python and/or Perl scripting - Strong experience with relational databases and advanced SQL - Ability to debug and optimize complex stored procedures and SQL logic - Strong understanding of objectoriented programming principles - Working knowledge of design patterns and clean code practices - Solid experience with Git, SVN or similar version control systems - Strong problemsolving, debugging, and analytical skills - Good written and verbal communication skills - Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team - Nice to Have - Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) - Experience supporting largescale or regulated production systems - Exposure to DevOps practices or automation What we offer you: - At FIS, you can grow your career as far as you want to take it.
