Robotics & Mechatronics Design Engineer Company: DSI Robotics Location: Noida, India Role Type: Full-time, On-site Domain: Confined-Space Robotics, Mobile Robotics, ROVs, Industrial Robotics Company Description : DSI Robotics is an R&D-focused engineering company specializing in confined-space robotics. Established in 2006, we are among the earliest companies in India working in applied mobile robotics, with two decades of experience in building safety-critical robotic solutions for industrial applications. We design and develop bespoke robotic systems across inspection-class and work-class ROV domains for sectors such as Water, Wastewater, Marine, Thermal Power, Hydel Power, Oil & Gas, and other industrial environments where human entry is hazardous, difficult, or impractical. Our robots are used for pipeline inspection, sewer and manhole inspection, underwater inspection and cleaning, desilting, dredging, tank cleaning, oily sludge handling, and other specialized industrial tasks. DSI began as a bootstrapped bedroom startup, funded by the founders using the remainder of their scholarship money to pursue their dream of building robots at a time when the word robotics itself was often met with skepticism by customers. That journey shaped our culture: practical, frugal, deeply technical, and focused on building machines that solve real industrial problems. Role Description : We are looking for a Robotics & Mechatronics Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Noida. This is a hands-on role involving the design and development of robotic and mechatronic systems for confined-space and industrial applications. The engineer will work on mechanical design, mechatronics architecture, actuator selection, sensor integration, control system planning, prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and iterative improvement of robotic platforms. This is not a routine catalogue-design role. At DSI, every project brings a different engineering challenge, and the candidate must be comfortable working on new concepts, practical constraints, field feedback, and real-world failures. Key Responsibilities : Design robotic and mechatronic systems for confined-space and industrial applications.Create CAD models, mechanical assemblies, detailed drawings, and design documentation.Select motors, actuators, gearboxes, bearings, seals, sensors, materials, and mechanical components.Perform engineering calculations related to torque, load, speed, stability, buoyancy, sealing, strength, and system performance.Work with electronics, firmware, software, and manufacturing teams to develop complete robotic systems.Support prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, validation, and field trials.Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, control, and system-level design issues.Improve designs based on test results, field feedback, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.Contribute to R&D for new robotic platforms, mechanisms, mobility systems, and automation solutions. Candidate Profile : We are looking for an engineer with a strong analytical foundation, sound engineering judgement, and a genuine passion for building real-world robotic systems. A B.Tech / M.Tech degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electronics, Electrical, Control Systems, or a related engineering discipline from a premier institute such as an IIT, NIT, IIIT, BITS, or another reputed engineering institution will be preferred. That said, institute name alone is not the deciding factor. What matters most is the candidates ability to think scientifically, reason from first principles, justify design decisions mathematically, and convert engineering ideas into practical working systems. Exceptional candidates from other institutes with strong fundamentals, proven project work, and demonstrable technical depth are equally encouraged to apply. Candidates with 2-4 yrs (or more) of relevant industrial experience will be preferred. However freshers with sound project experience may also apply. The Ideal Candidate Should Have : Strong foundation in mathematics, physics, mechanics, and core engineering fundamentals.Exposure to mechatronics, electronics, embedded systems, sensors, control systems, and AI/ML applications in robotics.Ability to scientifically justify design choices instead of relying only on trial-and-error.Interest in robotics competitions, technical clubs, hackathons, SAE BAJA, Formula Student, RoboCon, e-Yantra, Smart India Hackathon, or similar hands-on engineering activities.Genuine love for tinkering, prototyping, experimenting, debugging, and building machines beyond classroom requirements.Ability to participate in detailed technical discussions, design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and collaborative problem solving.Ability to balance creativity with engineering discipline, reliability, manufacturability, maintainability, cost, and field practicality.Excitement for designing robots that work in harsh industrial

Here's how to pick the right one and stand out in your application.

144.883Jobs

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
