About the role The Financial Accountant will play an important role in maintaining accurate and timely financial information across the group. This is a hands-on financial accounting role suited to an accountant who enjoys variety, takes pride in accuracy and is comfortable working across multiple areas of the finance function. Key responsibilities Working closely with the Accounting Manager and wider business, your responsibilities will include: Financial Accounting & Reporting Preparing accurate and timely monthly financial accounts for New Zealand and Australia. Preparing annual financial accounts and supporting schedules. Maintaining the General Ledger and preparing journals. Completing and maintaining balance sheet and inter-company reconciliations. Providing financial analysis, account detail and commentary to support management reporting. Preparing bank covenant schedules and daily/weekly cash position reports. Supporting cash flow forecasting and financial reporting requirements. Taxation & Statutory Compliance Preparing and coordinating GST, BAS, PAYG, FBT and other statutory returns. Preparing NZ income tax information with support from external tax advisers. Supporting Australian taxation and reporting requirements. Liaising with external accountants, tax advisers and relevant government agencies. Monitoring statutory deadlines and escalating material or complex matters appropriately. Audit & Financial Controls Coordinating information and supporting schedules for annual audits. Responding to routine auditor queries and providing supporting documentation. Maintaining appropriate financial controls and accurate accounting records. Identifying financial control issues and escalating material matters to the Accounting Manager. Banking & Treasury Monitoring daily cash balances and preparing cash position reporting. Preparing cash flow projections and identifying future payment requirements. Coordinating banking communications and international transfers within established approval processes. Supporting the monitoring and collection of local and overseas receivables. Other Financial Accounting Reviewing payroll-related journals and reconciliations. Maintaining the Fixed Asset Register and supporting capital expenditure accounting. Supporting stock valuation, product costing and inter-company accounting. Calculating inter-company transfer pricing as required. Supporting receivables and credit control activities. Providing financial information and support to internal departments as required. What we're looking for We are looking for an accountant who combines strong technical accounting skills with excellent attention to detail and a practical, collaborative approach. You will ideally have: A relevant accounting qualification and/or significant financial accounting experience. Strong experience preparing monthly and annual financial accounts. Experience with statutory reporting and taxation requirements. Sound knowledge of New Zealand accounting and taxation requirements. Knowledge of Australia accounting and taxation requirements, an advantage. Experience with GST, FBT, PAYE, BAS and related compliance requirements. Experience working with external auditors, accountants, tax advisers and banking institutions. Strong reconciliation and analytical skills. Strong Excel and financial systems skills. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central would be advantageous. Strong organisational and time-management skills. The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting and statutory deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently within established processes and delegated authorities. The ability to identify accounting, compliance and financial control issues and escalate matters appropriately. Australian accounting and taxation experience would be advantageous, as would experience working across multiple entities or jurisdictions.
