About the role Journal Café in Ormiston is looking for a reliable and experienced Junior Sous Chef to join our busy kitchen team. We are a well-established café serving brunch, lunch, cabinet food and modern café-style dishes. This role would suit someone with solid commercial kitchen experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. Key responsibilities Preparing and cooking brunch and café-style dishes Assisting the Head Chef and Sous Chef with daily kitchen operations Food preparation, plating and service Helping with cabinet food and daily specials Maintaining food quality, portion control and presentation Supporting and guiding junior kitchen staff Assisting with stock control and reducing food waste Keeping the kitchen clean and organised Following food safety and hygiene requirements Helping the kitchen run smoothly during busy service periods About you At least 2 years' commercial kitchen experience Café or restaurant experience preferred Good breakfast and brunch cooking skills Able to work efficiently under pressure Reliable, punctual and well organised Good communication and teamwork skills Available to work weekends and public holidays when required Experience as a Chef de Partie or Junior Sous Chef would be an advantage Legal right to work in New Zealand Benefits Full-time position Around 40 hours per week Stable hours Friendly and supportive team Opportunity to develop into a Sous Chef role
