Story Fresh is looking for an experienced Farm Manager to join their salad vegetable production team at Spring Creek, near Clifton. This is a permanent, operational position, with the option of a 4 bedroom brick veneer home with fully fenced yard on site. The house is on the local school bus run to Clifton (both primary and secondary schools). The role involves the daily management of two summer production farms, predominantly growing lettuce crops and some baby leaf. Responsible for overseeing and implementing land preparation, crop irrigation/fertigation, crop sprays and overall farm condition and housekeeping, the successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in crop production, both from a management and operational perspective. Management skills required for this position include but are not limited to: ability to develop production plans around land and crop rotation requirements in consultation with management; ensure crops are well looked after and meet yield and quality parameters; oversee all activities to ensure farms are maintained in an excellent condition; develop daily work plans and supervise farm based staff; responsible for meeting production requirements during the farms production window (mid August to end of May). Operational skills required for consideration for this position include but are not limited to: land preparation using a range of powered implements; setting up and operating tractors to undertake a range of farm duties including ground work, slashing, seeding, fertilising and crop incorporation; experience in operating self propelled spray rigs and a current Chemcert license to do crop spraying activities; ability to operate crop irrigation systems, in particular laterals and trickle systems; able to learn I-phone based systems to operate irrigation programs. Additional skills that would be advantage include: truck license forklift license cattle handling experience This position requires: A reliable individual who wants to work in a farming business and understands the impact of weather on farm operations; Attention to detail with a focus on getting it right the first time; Flexible hours of work in line with a key farm role; Regular weekend work roster during the production season; Physical fitness.
