The Opportunity The PI&T Team seek a Senior Painted Product Specialist to join the team and support the assessment and development of advanced coil coatings. BlueScope’s Product Innovation & Technology (PI&T) team is at the forefront of developing the next generation of steel and coating solutions for Australian and global markets. Bringing together expertise in research, product development, engineering, materials science and customer-led innovation, the PI&T team transforms ideas into commercially successful products that deliver value for customers and support a more sustainable future. This role will suit a technically curious coatings or materials specialist who enjoys experimental work and thrives in a laboratory environment. You'll be responsible for assessing the performance of advanced coating systems through a combination of sample preparation, testing, analysis and investigation, developing a deep understanding of coating durability, application behaviour and long-term product performance. Your work will provide critical evidence to support technology development and future commercialisation activities. What Will You Do As the SME, you will; Conduct laboratory-based evaluation of coil coating technologies and painted product systems Develop, refine and implement assessment methodologies tailored to new coating technologies Investigate coating durability, product risks and performance characteristics prior to scale-up trials Assess paint systems holistically, considering the interaction of primers, topcoats, overlays and emerging coating technologies Support investigations into coating application, curing behaviour, gloss control and process development activities Collaborate with product application teams, durability specialists and technical project stakeholders More About You You are a technically minded professional who enjoys laboratory experimentation and turning data into insights. You will bring; Experience working with coated products, paint systems, polymers, materials science or related technologies Experience evaluating performance characteristics of painted or coated products Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills The ability to work collaboratively across technical teams and contribute to multidisciplinary research programs Qualifications in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry, Engineering or a related discipline Why BlueScope As we’re creating strength for the future through our people, products and solutions, BlueScope gives you opportunities to innovate, learn and grow with the business, supported by inclusive leadership and a positive, passionate team.
