CockroachDB Database Administrator (DBA)

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced CockroachDB DBA to manage, optimize, and support large-scale, distributed CockroachDB clusters in production. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database administration, high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, automation, and troubleshooting in cloud-native environments. Key Responsibilitie sDesign, deploy, administer, and scale multi-region CockroachDB clusters .Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and data consistency across distributed environments .Monitor database health, replication, latency, storage, and resource utilization using observability tools .Perform capacity planning and proactive cluster scaling .Troubleshoot complex issues including node failures, network partitions, replication lag, leaseholder/range imbalance, hotspotting, and performance bottlenecks .Implement and manage backup, restore, failover, and point-in-time recovery (PITR) strategies .Execute rolling upgrades, patching, and maintenance with minimal or zero downtime .Optimize SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database schema for performance .Automate database provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and operational tasks using scripting or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) .Develop operational runbooks, SOPs, and disaster recovery documentation .Participate in production support, on-call rotations, and incident management .Required Skill s8–10 years of Database Administration experience with at least 2+ years on CockroachDB .Strong knowledge of distributed SQL databases and CockroachDB architecture .Expertise in cluster management, replication, rebalancing, and multi-region deployments .Experience with backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning .Strong SQL performance tuning and query optimization skills .Experience with Linux administration and shell scripting (Bash/Python) .Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) .Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar .Familiarity with automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CI/CD pipelines .Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills .Preferred Qualification sExperience with cloud-native, containerized database deployments .Knowledge of distributed systems, consensus protocols (Raft), and data replication concepts .Experience with PostgreSQL is an added advantage .Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills .
