We are looking for a Project Quality Manager / Engineer with the main responsibility of supporting projects in the sales and execution phase as part of the Project team. The preferred location for this position is Vaasa, Finland , but other Wärtsilä office locations in Finland are also negotiable. We offer a possibility to work in a hybrid model. The final job title, Project Quality Engineer or Project Quality Manager, will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills and experience. Your Role And Responsibilities As a Project Quality Manager / Engineer, your work will include planning, implementing and controlling project quality management activities in compliance with applicable internal, customer and legal requirements. You’ll be working as part of the Project Quality Assurance team with diverse expertise in the QEHS organization in our Engine Power Plant business. Your work will focus on these responsibilities: Prepare and manage the project quality plans/ documentation and its contents Review customer tender/ contractual requirements related to quality management and identify the risks If necessary, create and implement a project-specific process to fulfil the contractual requirements Ensure project quality management requirements are fulfilled and documented Actively participate in project gates and milestone meetings and support quality management related topics Focus on continuous improvement of project/ product quality based on lessons learned, feedback and non-conformities Coordinate and ensure supplier- and product-related quality management and quality documentation requirements are fulfilled in project Plan and manage the necessary product certification required to be delivered for the project as per regulations Coordinate with site teams and subcontractors to ensure the site quality management system is implemented and quality assurance/ control documentation is developed and maintained To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, preferably in the mechanical, electrical, civil or industrial field Minimum 5 years of experience either in project management, quality management, site construction management or procurement management Knowledge of the equipment and systems in power plants or the energy industry Hands-on experience in any of the following fields: construction, fabrication, welding, manufacturing, installation, commissioning Knowledge of ISO 9001 and QMS requirements ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Certification will be seen as an advantage Fluent English, and other language skills, such as Spanish, French, or German will be seen as an advantage Why you and us? That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
