*Associate Lawyer * *Johnstone & Johnstone LLP* is seeking an *Associate Lawyer* to join our growing labour and employment law practice. We are a boutique law firm with a practice focused on labour and employment law, with particular expertise in police labour relations. We represent employers and police services across Ontario in a broad range of labour, employment, human rights, workplace investigation, administrative and litigation matters. The successful candidate will work closely with the firm's partners and will have the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility for files while developing their advocacy, legal research, drafting and client-management skills. *The Role* The Associate Lawyer will assist with and have carriage of a variety of matters, including: * Labour arbitrations and collective agreement disputes; * Employment law and wrongful dismissal matters; * Police discipline and other matters arising within the police sector; * Human rights proceedings; * Workplace investigations; * Administrative tribunal proceedings; * Civil litigation and judicial review proceedings; * Legal research and preparation of opinions and memoranda; * Drafting pleadings, facta, written submissions, policies, employment agreements and other legal documents; * Preparing for and attending mediations, arbitrations, hearings and court proceedings; and * Communicating directly with clients and providing practical, timely legal advice. *Qualifications* The ideal candidate will have: * An LL.B. or J.D. and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario; * Approximately *1?5 years of post-call experience*, preferably in labour and employment law, administrative law or a related practice area; * Strong legal research, analytical and written advocacy skills; * Excellent oral and written communication skills; * Strong attention to detail and organizational skills; * The ability to manage multiple files and competing deadlines; * Sound professional judgment and a practical, client-focused approach to problem solving; and * The ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience in labour and employment law, police law, administrative law, workplace investigations, or litigation is an asset but is not required. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate strong legal research and writing abilities, effective advocacy skills, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn. *To Apply* Interested candidates are invited to submit a *cover letter and résumé* outlining their experience and interest in the position.
