Are you passionate about infrastructure engineering, batch automation, and helping enterprise-level systems run at scale At Swiss Re, we are seeking a skilled Search Engineer to join our Enterprise Batch Management team—a group at the heart of critical system operations responsible for managing over 15 million task executions per month across platforms like Windows, Unix, Mainframe, and cloud APIs. In this role, you'll drive the design, stability, automation, and scalability of our batch scheduling infrastructure using UC4 (Automic) and Azure-native solutions. This is your opportunity to work with a globally respected team on systems that are mission-critical for one of the world's largest reinsurance companies. Your Responsibilities Partner with the Product Owner to ensure the reliability and performance of the enterprise scheduling platform Engineer, configure, and support job scheduling infrastructure across platforms including Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS), Windows, Unix, and IBM Mainframe Own installation, maintenance, and performance improvements for UC4 / Automic Automation (Broadcom) Design scalable infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools like Terraform, Bash, or PowerShell Ensure high availability and resilience in a hybrid cloud architecture Engage in incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term remediation efforts Contribute to the optimization of CI/CD processes in Azure DevOps Create documentation and reusable assets to support platform use and evolution across the engineering organization About You – Key Qualifications You don't need to tick every box to apply, but these are some of the qualities and experiences we're looking for: Must-Haves: 5+ years of experience with enterprise job scheduling systems – ideally with UC4 / Automic Automation Hands-on experience with Azure cloud infrastructure (2+ years) Familiarity with Kubernetes (preferably AKS) and cloud-native tools Experience with IaC tools like Terraform Scripting ability in Unix/Linux shell; database skills with PostgreSQL or Oracle Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure design best practices Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in mission-critical environments Nice to Haves: Mainframe platform knowledge (JCL, REXX, COBOL) Java programming background Understanding of security concepts and network configuration in cloud-native applications Strong interpersonal communication in English and experience working in a globally distributed, agile team About the Team You'll be part of Shared Platform Services, a division within Swiss Re's Group Digital & Technology unit. Our team provides shared infrastructure and platform components—automation, token services, databases, and batch scheduling—to increase productivity, reduce costs, and accelerate time-to-market. Within this, the Enterprise Batch Management sub-team supports approximately 1200 developers across the business and ensures continuous execution of key workloads. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
