About The Role Grade Level (for internal use): 11 The Role: Database Architect. Define database schema structures, indexing strategies, and partitioning techniques for optimal performance. Develop data models to support application requirements and ensure data integrity. Establish standards for database design, security, and performance tuning. Database Development & Integration Work closely with development teams to implement database solutions that align with application requirements. Develop and maintain stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views for business logic. Ensure seamless integration between database systems and data pipelines. Performance Tuning & Optimization Analyze database performance metrics and implement indexing, caching, and partitioning strategies. Leverage tools like SQL Server Profiler, Oracle AWR, and AWS Performance Insights to monitor and improve performance. Data Security & Compliance Implement encryption, access controls, and auditing measures to secure data assets. Ensure compliance with industry standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, or ISO standards. Collaborate with security teams to manage database vulnerabilities and risks. Backup & Disaster Recovery Develop comprehensive backup, recovery, and failover strategies for business continuity. Design high availability solutions using SQL Server Always On, Oracle Data Guard, or AWS Multi-AZ configurations. Collaboration & Documentation Work closely with stakeholders to gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Maintain detailed documentation for database designs, configurations, and performance benchmarks. What We're Looking For Expertise in database design, data modeling, and schema development. Strong experience with SQL Server, Oracle, and cloud database solutions like Amazon RDS or Azure SQL Database. Proficiency in database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies. Experience with data replication, partitioning, and sharding techniques. Proficiency in automation tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. 12+ years of experience in database design, architecture, and administration. Proven experience in cloud database solutions and large-scale data management projects. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
