About Engine Engine is the all-in-one travel and spend management platform trusted by 38K+ businesses and groups and 1.2M+ travelers. We're the retailer and the rails of business travel, the fastest-growing company in travel tech, built on a decade of proprietary technology, supply, and pricing no one else can replicate. Other travel and AI companies run on our infrastructure to book real trips, hold rates, and move payments, without building any of it themselves. We built it, AI-forward at every layer, from how travelers book to how the rails run. That work has earned recognition as one of Fast Company's Best Workplaces for Innovators (2025), TravelTech's Reservation Platform of the Year (2026), and one of Built In's Best Places to Work (2020–2026). We're looking for bold, ambitious people to help redefine how businesses manage and experience travel. Working here, you can expect exponential growth, an ambitious pace, full ownership, and high-caliber colleagues who push you to do the best work of your career. Every hire raises the bar. Come outpace the ordinary and build the future of travel with us. The Role The Travel Management team owns the systems that make Engine work for enterprise customers — travel policies, travel controls, account hierarchy, roles and permissions, and granular policies across lodging, flights, and cars. This is where scale meets configurability, and where the platform earns the trust of the largest companies we serve. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can design distributed backend systems, make tough calls with incomplete information, and drive scalable, enterprise-grade solutions across a highly cross-functional environment. You'll be a heavy backend contributor, working on greenfield architecture and re-architecting existing components as we unlock the next stage of the platform. What You'll Do Re-architect account hierarchy — migrating from single-user-per-business assumptions to a scalable model that supports complex parent-child business relationships Build out dynamic travel policies that scale across lodging, flights, and cars for enterprise customers Evaluate what stays in the monolith vs. moves to microservices — and make the call Collaborate closely with business stakeholders on negotiations and tough product calls Partner with frontend engineers on the team to ship features end-to-end What We're Looking For Required: Strong backend engineering fundamentals in Node / TypeScript Solid relational database experience (Postgres, MySQL) and distributed systems knowledge AWS and serverless architecture experience (Lambda) Conviction with rationale — you make decisions with incomplete information, own them, and move forward Highly cross-functional — you'll interface directly with business partners on negotiations and product decisions Comfortable operating in ambiguity and negotiating outcomes across engineering and business Insist on high standards — for your code, your systems, and your team Nice to Have: Ruby on Rails experience (some of our services are on Rails) Some React or frontend exposure Prior experience building multi-tenant enterprise systems, permissions frameworks, or policy engines This is a contractor role for candidates based in Latin America. Applications for this role will be accepted through September 30th, or until the role is filled. We encourage you to apply early, as we may begin reviewing applications before the deadline. The Engine Edge: Perks & Compensation We believe in rewarding great work with great benefits: Compensation: Competitive base pay tied to role and experience, with opportunities for bonuses, commissions, and equity. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
