Employer: The Trustee for Gill Family Trust T/A The Chutney Bar Inverloch Position: Cook Salary: $78,000 - $85,000 Plus Superannuation Location: 16A Williams St., Inverloch, VIC 3996 Mode: Full Time Experience: 1 year experience minimum About Us The Chutney Bar Inverloch, located at 16A Williams Street, Inverloch VIC 3996, is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Cook to support its busy and well-established restaurant. The venue specialises in authentic Indian cuisine, offering tandoori specialities, vegetarian dishes, seafood, lamb, chicken, beef, biryani and traditional Indian breads. The restaurant provides dine-in, takeaway and online ordering services, creating an ongoing need for a skilled Cook to support efficient kitchen operations and maintain consistent food quality. The successful Cook will prepare ingredients and cook menu items in accordance with established recipes, traditional cooking techniques and quality standards. The role will involve food preparation, cooking, monitoring food quality and presentation, maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards, and ensuring meals are prepared within required service timeframes. The Cook will work collaboratively with other kitchen staff during busy service periods and assist in maintaining an efficient kitchen workflow. The position requires a reliable and hardworking culinary professional with practical experience in Indian cuisine and commercial kitchen operations. The Cook will contribute to maintaining the restaurant’s established standards of authentic preparation, food quality, hygiene and customer service across its dine-in, takeaway and online ordering operations. Key Responsibilities • Prepare and cook a variety of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori dishes, seafood, chicken, lamb, beef, vegetarian dishes, biryani and Indian breads. • Select, measure and prepare ingredients in accordance with established recipes and kitchen standards. • Marinate, season and prepare meat, seafood, vegetables and other ingredients using appropriate preparation techniques. • Operate and regulate ovens, tandoors, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment to achieve required cooking temperatures. • Cook food using appropriate methods, including tandoor cooking, grilling, frying, baking, simmering and steaming. • Monitor food during cooking to ensure appropriate taste, texture, quality and consistency. • Portion and plate meals according to established recipes, presentation standards and serving requirements. • Prepare food to accommodate special dietary requirements, food allergies and customer requests where required. • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients and ensure food is stored appropriately under temperature-controlled conditions. • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of food preparation areas, cooking equipment, utensils and workstations in accordance with food safety requirements. • Assist with stock rotation, checking supplies and preparing ingredients required for daily kitchen operations. • Work collaboratively with the Chef and kitchen team to ensure food is prepared and served efficiently during busy service periods. • Assist in guiding junior kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking procedures and maintaining kitchen hygiene standards. To be Successful in this Role, You Will Have • Hold a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent recognised qualification. • Have at least one year of relevant experience as a Cook in a commercial restaurant or professional kitchen environment. • Demonstrated experience in preparing authentic Indian cuisine, including curries, tandoori dishes, biryani, breads and vegetarian dishes. • Demonstrated knowledge of Indian spices, ingredients, marinades and traditional cooking methods, including tandoor cooking. • Sound understanding of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling requirements, with the ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation. • Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively in a fast-paced kitchen, prioritising multiple food preparation and cooking tasks during busy service periods.
