The Role We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with full-stack JavaScript experience to join the Central Technology Web Development team in support of Morningstar’s Corporate Marketing. This position will be part of an engineering team focused on updating Morningstar’s web-based marketing platforms. The position includes the development of new systems, maintenance, and improvement of existing applications. Candidates should have solid software engineering experience in building commercial-grade web-based applications using modern frameworks. Location: Chicago, IL (We follow a hybrid policy of 4 days onsite) Job Responsibilities Develop full-stack web applications using Vue.js, Nuxt 3, TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS. Build and maintain server-side rendered and universal web applications, with awareness of routing, hydration, caching, browser behavior, and performance. Create reusable front-end components and contribute to component libraries and design-system patterns. Build and maintain Node.js-based APIs, middleware, and service integrations, including integrations with headless CMS, analytics, personalization, and third-party platforms. Contribute to AI-enabled marketing workflows, including tools that assist with content creation, content migration, schema mapping, personalization, experimentation, and operational automation. Support production-quality delivery through testing, debugging, monitoring, accessibility, SEO, security, privacy, and Core Web Vitals improvements. Troubleshoot issues across browser behavior, API responses, CMS configuration, cloud infrastructure, and build pipelines. Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, documentation, and team planning while continuing to grow technical depth across the stack. Qualifications 3+ years of professional software development experience, preferably with a focus on full-stack JavaScript or TypeScript. Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as Vue, Nuxt, React, Next.js, Angular, or similar. Familiarity with server-side rendered, statically generated, or universal JavaScript applications. Solid understanding of browser fundamentals, including rendering, JavaScript execution, caching, networking, accessibility, and performance. Strong JavaScript or TypeScript skills, including asynchronous programming, modular code, package management, and modern build tooling such as Vite, Webpack, Rollup, or similar. Experience building or consuming RESTful APIs, Node.js services, middleware, or integrations with external platforms. Familiarity with deploying, debugging, or monitoring applications in AWS or a similar cloud environment. Strong communication skills, curiosity, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, product managers, designers, content teams, and other cross-functional partners. Nice to have Experience with headless Content Management Systems like Contentstack. Experience developing for or partnering with digital marketing teams, particularly around content personalization, analytics, or lead generation workflows. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
