SNC's Military Fellowship Program partners with programs such as SkillBridge and Hiring Our Heroes to provide fellowship opportunities to service members transitioning to the civilian workforce. These fellowships include up to six months of on-the-job industry training for eligible service members. During this time, participants gain valuable work experience in the civilian sector and build professional networks as they prepare for their transition to full-time civilian work. Responsibilities: Conduct advanced assembly and construction of electronic, mechanical, and optical systems. Perform in-depth troubleshooting and repairs on equipment. Calibrate and test devices using sophisticated equipment and techniques. Document and analyze test results and maintenance activities. Provide training and mentorship to Engineering Technician I personnel. Collaborate with engineers to develop solutions for technical challenges. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and industry standards. Qualifications You Must Have: Currently serving as ACTIVE duty military and be eligible to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program Associate's degree in a related field of study. 1+ years of experience as a technician or in a related field. Relevant experience can be considered as a substitute for the required educational qualifications. In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 3 years of related experience is required. Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience. Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams, schematics, and manuals. Ability to work with standard laboratory test equipment, other measurement equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Proficiency in electronic, mechanical, or optical systems troubleshooting. Qualifications We Prefer: Previous experience and/or certifications within the aerospace and defense industry. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with AutoCAD or other 3-D CAD software. Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field. Previous supervisory or training experience. Advanced understanding of calibration and testing equipment. Essential Functions: Ability to lift up to 30 lbs regularly. Ability to be on your feet for much of the work shift. Dexterity to handle and assemble small components. Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and loud environments. Ability to travel as required. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
