Job Description The Role We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and optimize the Mobile Backend for Frontend (MBFF) platform and back-office integration services that power GM mobile ownership experiences. This role will focus on building secure, scalable, and resilient microservices using Java and Spring Boot, while advancing modern engineering practices across API development, cloud-native operations, DevOps automation, and observability. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in microservices, hands-on cloud engineering experience in Azure, and a practical understanding of how AI-enabled tools can improve engineering productivity and operational insight. This engineer will play a key role in delivering platform capabilities that improve reliability, accelerate delivery, and simplify how mobile applications integrate with GM enterprise systems. What You’ll Do Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices, REST APIs, GraphQL APIs, and event-driven integrations using Java and Spring Boot. Build secure, reliable, and performant backend services that support mobile application experiences and enterprise workflows. Deploy and operate services on Azure using AKS, API Management, Functions, Cosmos DB, SQL Database, and related cloud-native services. Strengthen DevOps practices by building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, environment consistency, and release governance using Azure DevOps and Git-based workflows. Improve system observability through metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, alerting, and service health monitoring using tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, and Azure Monitor. Define, monitor, and continuously improve service reliability through meaningful SLOs, SLAs, and operational health indicators aligned to customer and business expectations. Apply AI-enabled engineering practices to improve developer productivity, code quality, operational insight, anomaly detection, incident triage, and capacity awareness. Use Test-Driven Development (TDD) and strong engineering fundamentals to deliver maintainable, well-tested software with robust unit, integration, and functional test coverage. Partner with product, architecture, security, and dependent engineering teams to deliver solutions aligned to business and customer needs. Mentor engineers on microservices design, API standards, testing strategy, observability, and DevOps best practices. Contribute to architecture documentation, operational runbooks, API documentation, and engineering standards across the team. Additional Job Description Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience. 5+ years of software engineering experience, including strong hands-on development in Java and Spring Boot. Proven experience designing and building microservices and RESTful APIs in distributed systems. Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Azure, including containerized deployments and managed services. Strong understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-aware development, and automated deployment practices. Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito, and modern software engineering best practices. Strong experience with SQL databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively across teams. What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Experience with GraphQL, WebSockets, and event-driven or asynchronous architecture patterns. Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Cosmos DB or Cassandra. Hands-on experience with Azure services such as AKS, API Management, Functions, Cosmos DB, SQL Database, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights. Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus. Experience with observability tooling such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, OpenTelemetry, or similar monitoring platforms. Practical experience with Docker, Kubernetes, release automation, and production support in cloud-native environments. Experience using AI-assisted development tools and applying AI-driven operational capabilities for log analysis, incident response, anomaly detection, or engineering productivity. Knowledge of security best practices including OAuth2, JWT, secrets management, and API gateway patterns. Familiarity with mobile backend workflows, enterprise integration patterns, and ownership experiences platforms. Experience working in Agile product teams and mentoring engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and delivery execution. Here's how to pick the right one and stand out in your application.

144.883Jobs

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
