Overview Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS, http://globalscholars.yale.edu) is the premier summer academic enrichment & leadership development program of its kind for talented high school students from around the world. Enrolling approximately 2,000 high school students through a highly competitive application process, YYGS participants represent more than 150 countries and all 50+ U.S. states & territories. The program offers nine (9) sessions on Yale’s campus in STEM, social science, & cross-disciplinary fields. Senior Yale faculty members lecture in the program while dedicated undergraduate, graduate, and professional school student serve as residential life staff and academic instructors, leading small-group discussions and supervising project work. Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS, https://africanscholars.yale.edu/) is the premier academic enrichment and leadership development program of its kind for African high school students planning to pursue university education and who wish to make a meaningful impact on the continent. Enrolling approximately 350 high school students annually through a highly competitive application process, YYAS participants represent approximately 40 different countries across the African continent. The program offers a comprehensive online course (all live offerings, not recorded), an in-person summer program in Africa, and a robust alumni mentorship program. Senior Yale faculty members lecture in the program while dedicated undergraduate, graduate, and professional school student serve as residential life staff and academic instructors, leading small-group discussions and supervising project work. Reporting to the Executive Director of YYGS & YYAS, the Associate Director of Admissions serves a key leadership role in the development of YYGS & YYAS and is responsible for a wide range of activities and initiatives related to admissions, need-based financial aid, and marketing, including: managing two direct reports who are responsible for marketing, technology, operations, and data management; providing the strategic vision for admissions from recruitment through enrollment; serving as a liaison with Yale Conference & Events for coordinating how enrolled students are served by peer departments (such as Housing, Dining, Accessibility, and so on); conceptualizing infrastructure to increase operational efficiencies, including implementation of new technology to manage large amounts of data; analyzing program data to help inform data-driven decision making; reading applications of high school students from around the world applying to YYGS & YYAS; supporting efforts to recruit, hire and train a team of internal and external application readers; building and maintaining relationships with the admissions community at Yale; and maintaining a critical and front-facing leadership role during the summer. T he schedule is hybrid, with 2 days in office the majority of the year. 1 day in office in September, 2 days in office from October through mid-June, and then fully in-person from mid-June through July (June 13-July 30 this year), and then fully remote in August (and then the cycle restarts). O ccasional night/weekend work. Required Skills and Abilities 1.Demonstrated ability in managing teams/programs and responding appropriately to stressful situations. Self-starter and entrepreneurial, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team with flexibility and agility to adapt to changing work demands and balance many projects simultaneously. 2.Ability to quickly learn and excel in new technology, including online systems and platforms such as Technolutions Slate, Cvent, and CampDoc; demonstrated experience and skill with systems such as Excel, SQL, and Python; comfort with managing and analyzing large amounts of information in a fast-paced environment. 3.Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work long hours, evenings and weekends (on call rotation) during the summer and admissions cycles, including in summer walking across campus while program is in session (6-7 weeks). 4.Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals including high school and college-age students, parents/families, faculty members, and staff on a wide variety of academic and professionally related issues. Preferred Skills and Abilities 1. Master's degree in education or a related field preferred. 2. Experience in Yale Young Global Scholars and/or Yale Young African Scholars 3. Familiarity with Yale University. Principal Responsibilities Develops a strategic plan to build a robust recruitment program that will take both selectivity and yield into account. Coordinates all recruitment efforts internationally, nationally, and locally. Implements marketing strategies to assist in building a strong applicant pool and in raising the yield percentage, which incorporates advertising through digital venues–including social networks–and partnerships with organizations like the Alumni Association. Stays open to new and creative venues. Oversees all admissions processes including reviewing applications, the admissions decision-making process, correspondence, special events, and decision notification. Oversees financial aid application and award procedures, including special scholarship and travel grant recipients. Develops special strategies to increase diversity among students attending YYGS. Develops and leads international recruiting strategies and events. Supervises and develops the staff. Cultivates ways to partner with other individuals or units to increase the program efficiency and effectiveness. Develops and manages the annual budget. Develops a series of metrics to measure the effectiveness of the admissions process and maintains all relevant data for the evaluation of the process. Represents YYGS at University and national meetings dealing with admissions or financial aid. Works collaboratively with other units in the University. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree and five years of related work experience in admissions, registrar, placement, financial aid or student counseling or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Education and Experience Experience with enrichment programs, such as the Yale Young Global Scholars Program Experience working with young adults Experience managing programs or teams.
