Job Description: Software Engineer II - Network Test Engineer Location (Hybrid): Sunnyvale, CA HPE Networking is a leader in AI-driven, next-generation networking solutions that power modern data centers, cloud, campus, branch, and service provider networks. Our engineers build the software that enables intelligent, secure, and highly reliable networking infrastructure used by customers around the world. We are seeking a Software Test Engineer to join our Networking & IP Services team. In this role, you will work closely with Product Management, Software Engineering, and Hardware Engineering teams to validate next-generation networking platforms and software. You will develop test strategies, automate complex networking test scenarios, troubleshoot software and hardware issues, and help deliver high-quality networking products. What You'll Do Collaborate with Product Management, Software Engineering, and Hardware teams to review product requirements and technical designs. Develop comprehensive functional, system, and regression test plans for networking software and platforms. Execute manual and automated test cases to validate functionality, scalability, reliability, and performance. Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks using Python Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to improve product quality and release efficiency. Identify, reproduce, troubleshoot, and document software and hardware defects. Partner with development teams to isolate root causes and verify fixes. Validate Layer 2/Layer 3 networking features, routing protocols, and network services. Perform hardware qualification and validation testing for new networking platforms. Contribute to continuous improvements in testing processes, automation, and product quality. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of software testing experience, or Master's degree with 1+ year of relevant experience. Experience developing and executing software test plans and test cases. Hands-on experience with Python for test automation. Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience in several of the following areas is highly desirable: 2+ years of software testing experience in networking, IP services, or network operating systems. Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking technologies, including: Ethernet VLANs Quality of Service (QoS) Class of Service (CoS) Load Balancing OpenConfig Telemetry P4 Runtime (P4RT) Firewall technologies Routing and transport protocols, including: BGP OSPF IS-IS MPLS RSVP Multicast L2VPN L3VPN VPLS Experience working in Linux, FreeBSD, and virtualized environments. Hands-on experience with network test equipment such as Spirent or Ixia. Knowledge of software testing methodologies including unit, integration, system, regression, black-box, and solution testing. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
