We are now looking for a Data Engineer! As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, optimization, and operation of our data infrastructure and backend systems. You will work closely with a collaborative team of engineers, focusing on technologies such as SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Azure, C# and ASP.NET Core. If you are passionate about building scalable, efficient, data-driven backend solutions, we want to hear from you. Who you are: You have experience tuning all aspects of SQL Server, including query and execution-plan analysis and know exactly where to place the right index. Your savvy troubleshooting skills include identifying and mitigating locking and concurrency issues. You know what is important when it comes to observability and monitoring, what needs acting on as well as identifying blind spots. You are comfortable automating and orchestrating repetitive tasks such as reports and data exports. You are experienced with data classification and different retention needs. You have experience in backend development using C# and ASP.NET Core. You are familiar with cloud platform providers such as Azure and their data infrastructure services. What you'll do: Database management : Design and implement efficient database structures using SQL Server, optimizing data storage, and retrieval for optimal system performance. Database operations : Ensure database operations under sustained production load are healthy and performant, supporting both players, designers and fellow developers in their day-to-day activities. Database observability : Create and maintain alert rules, the SQL metrics exporter, Grafana dashboards, and Extended-Events-based performance diagnostics. Data pipelines : Operate and evolve the Azure Data Factory pipelines, maintenance, and telemetry events. Application development : Design and develop backend solutions using C#, ASP.NET Core, and Microsoft Orleans, ensuring high performance, scalability, and maintainability. Cloud integration : Utilize Azure services to build and optimize cloud-based backend components, ensuring seamless integration with our applications. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to understand requirements, provide technical insights, and ensure the successful delivery of projects. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
