Platform Engineer – Kafka & Integration Platform Telge Consulting is looking for two experienced Platform Engineers specializing in integration and messaging platforms for assignments within a large enterprise environment. You will work with business-critical integration platforms used by multiple development teams. The role combines platform engineering, DevOps, automation and operational responsibility, with a strong focus on Apache Kafka, Kubernetes and HiveMQ. About the role As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for building, operating and continuously improving scalable and secure integration platforms. You will work according to a "you build it – you run it" approach and take end-to-end responsibility for platform stability, automation, security and performance. Your responsibilities will include: Design, deploy and maintain Apache Kafka environments on Kubernetes using Strimzi or similar technologies Operate and administer Kafka clusters and enterprise HiveMQ MQTT brokers Manage Kafka Connect, topics, partitions, schemas, retention and cluster resources Plan and perform platform upgrades, patching and lifecycle management Design solutions for high availability, disaster recovery and cross-region replication Implement Kafka security including ACLs, SASL, OAuth/OIDC, mTLS and RBAC Develop and maintain Kafka Connectors for integration between legacy and cloud-based systems Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and ArgoCD Work with Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment using technologies such as Terraform and Helm Monitor platform health and performance using Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk and related observability tools Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex production issues Provide Tier 3 support for issues related to Kafka, messaging, networking and platform performance Support Java/Spring Boot development teams with Kafka Producer/Consumer configuration and integration patterns Develop self-service solutions and automation for development teams Work closely with security, architecture and development teams Required qualifications We are looking for candidates with: 4–6 years of professional experience working with Apache Kafka Experience with Kafka platform administration, Kafka Connect and KRaft Experience with Strimzi or similar Kafka operators on Kubernetes 4–6 years of experience with Java and Spring Boot Strong experience with Kubernetes, preferably Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) Experience with CI/CD using GitHub Actions and/or Jenkins Experience with ArgoCD Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform Experience with Helm Experience with Linux Experience with PostgreSQL Experience with observability technologies such as Grafana, Prometheus and Splunk Experience with Fluent Bit and/or OpenTelemetry Professional working proficiency in English Experience with HiveMQ or other enterprise MQTT platforms is highly desirable. Additional qualifications It is advantageous if you have experience with: API Management platforms Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud KEDA Envoy Gateway or similar proxy/ingress technologies Cloud cost optimization Integration platforms in large enterprise environments Personal qualities You are a structured and solution-oriented engineer who is comfortable taking operational responsibility for business-critical platforms. You enjoy solving complex technical problems and collaborating with developers, architects, security specialists and other stakeholders. You have a humble and collaborative approach and are comfortable working in an international environment.
