Resident Engineer - Southeast Missouri Department: Transportation Employment Type: Full Time Location: Jackson, MO Description Gonzalez Companies is a partner managed firm that provides comprehensive Planning, Design, and Construction Management Services to large and small Water, Sewer and Utility Districts; Departments of Transportation; and municipalities. We are currently seeking a Resident Engineer to help serve our connection of clients and community. This role will cover multiple areas in Southeastern Missouri, including: Cape Giraurdo, Sikeston, Jackson and surrounding areas. Your Primary Responsibilities will include Serve as the on-site lead for DOT construction projects, providing day-to-day oversight of construction operations. Ensure contractor compliance with approved plans, specifications, DOT standards, permits, and safety requirements. Manage and coordinate construction inspection staff and specialty inspectors as applicable. Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, schedules, and material certifications in accordance with DOT procedures. Monitor project progress, track quantities, review pay applications, and recommend approval of contractor payments. Identify, document, and resolve construction issues, field changes, and non-conforming work. Prepare and review change orders, force account work, and claims documentation. Conduct and participate in progress meetings, partnering meetings, and coordination with utilities, local agencies, and stakeholders. Maintain accurate project records including daily reports, test results, correspondence, and project documentation. Ensure adherence to environmental commitments, traffic control plans, and public safety requirements. What you'll need Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Minimum of 5–10 years of construction management or inspection experience on DOT or heavy civil transportation projects. Thorough knowledge of DOT specifications, construction practices, and contract administration procedures. Experience overseeing roadway, bridge, drainage, utilities, and traffic control construction activities. Strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills. Proficiency with DOT documentation systems, construction management software, and Microsoft Office. Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and schedules. Familiarity with state DOT materials testing, quality assurance, and inspection protocols.
