Job Summary The Director of Engineering leads and directs a multidisciplinary team responsible for cost estimating, engineering, BID development, and proposal activities. This role is accountable for developing integrated technical solutions and new value propositions by applying and adapting existing systems and technologies across multiple OEMs and functional areas. The Director partners closely with Sales and Operations to support business development efforts, providing engineering expertise, cost estimates, and system design support for proposals and client presentations. Additionally, this role plays a key part in identifying and advancing new business opportunities, helping to drive growth and innovation across the organization. Responsibilities Lead and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary engineering team. Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Serve as the technical authority for service offerings and provide cross-functional engineering support. Maintain engineering best practices and lessons learned to drive operational excellence. Monitor market trends, projects, competitors, and regulatory developments. Align engineering with business goals through collaboration, reporting, Maximo support, and customer-focused solutions. Standardize engineering processes and drive continuous improvement and innovation. Minimum Requirements High school diploma required; bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience). 10+ years of engineering experience, including 8+ years in leadership. Experience leading complex engineering projects and high-performing teams. Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency with engineering software and applicable codes. Ability to obtain and maintain an airport ID badge. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Work is performed in a combination of standard office settings, airport terminals, operational environments, and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) maintenance and repair facilities. Requires the ability to access and navigate operational areas, airport facilities, and GSE maintenance environments, with or without reasonable accommodation, to oversee engineering activities, assess equipment and facilities, and support project execution. Regularly performs office-based responsibilities, including computer work, project management, planning, reporting, meetings, and other administrative duties. May require periods of standing, walking, sitting, and movement between office, terminal, maintenance, and operational areas, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate and exchange information effectively with employees, operational teams, technical personnel, vendors, and leadership in both in-person and virtual settings. Requires the ability to travel domestically as business needs dictate, to support engineering projects, operational initiatives, and other business requirements. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
