Job Summary Performs applied research at the intersection of fabrication, hands-on engineering, materials, manufacturing processes, process characterization, and artificial intelligence/machine learning in manufacturing (AI/ML). Works both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment. Requires strong knowledge of equipment design and fabrication, manufacturing processes, materials, data analysis, and analytical methods, along with the ability to contribute effectively to fast-paced, time-bound, and results-driven team projects. Engages in individual and team-based research in electronic manufacturing, including the design and development of equipment and processes. Plans and executes project tasks to meet established timelines, conducts equipment-based analysis, and prepares detailed technical reports. Collaborates with academic, governmental, and industry partners and presents research outcomes to a range of stakeholders. What We're Looking For: Education and Experience: Associates or Bachelors degree of Applied Science Two (2) years of experience in electronics fabrication research and manufacturing systems Hands-on fabrication experience A background in mechanical and electrical design, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing Hands-on experience with robotic and fabrication equipment, testing, and operation Knowledge of data gathering and analysis Proficiency in test planning Use of hardware and software Skills needed: Learning new subjects, problem-solving, critical thinking, and project-planning abilities Practical communication skills, including technical writing and presentations, and working harmoniously in a team with multiple skills Strong attention to safety, urgency, and professionalism in a research setting MODERATE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally Nice to have: Bachelors degree with two (2)+ years of work experience or two (2) years of technician diploma with four (4)+ years of experience to work in a machine shop Some exposure and experience to work in applied research operations Interest in space as a subject is a human ambition Who We Are: Purdue is a community built on collaboration, with global perspectives, Boilermaker pride and endless opportunity to live, learn and grow. Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully.
