SUMMARY OF ASSIGNED DUTIES, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POST The Data Protection Office (DPO) aims at ensuring effective governance, accountability, and operational compliance with INTERPOL’s data protection framework across the Organization and the INTERPOL Information System (IIS). The Office contributes to strengthening a sustainable data protection culture through monitoring, advisory, coordination, and awareness activities from multidisciplinary operational, technical and legal perspectives. Under the supervision of the INTERPOL Data Protection Officer (IDPO), the incumbent contributes to the implementation, coordination and operationalization of the INTERPOL Data Protection Management System (IDPMS), with a particular focus on compliance monitoring, governance coordination, follow-up mechanisms, and engagement with the global network of NCB DPOs and relevant stakeholders. The role contributes to the strengthening of a modern, operational, and risk-based data protection governance model supporting accountability, operational effectiveness, responsible innovation, and secure organizational collaboration across the Organization. The incumbent performs duties in accordance with INTERPOL’s regulatory framework, confidentiality obligations, and applicable independence and conflict-of-interest requirements. Where necessary, matters involving institutional independence or potential conflicts of interest may be escalated to the IDPO for guidance, allocation, or oversight. PRINCIPAL DUTIES 1 - Compliance Monitoring and Operational Oversight Contribute to the monitoring, coordination, and follow-up of data protection compliance activities relating to the IIS and associated data processing activities. Coordinate compliance review and assessment activities, including follow-up on identified risks, mitigation measures, recommendations, and action plans. Ensure the implementation and operationalization of the INTERPOL Data Protection Management System (IDPMS), including KPI tracking, governance reporting, and monitoring mechanisms. Develop structured escalation and follow-up procedures for high-risk or non-compliant processing activities. 2 - Coordination with NCB DPO Network and Governance Stakeholders Maintain regular engagement with NCB DPOs and designated focal points to support consistent implementation of INTERPOL data protection requirements. Facilitate structured communication, awareness, and coordination activities with relevant internal and external stakeholders. Identify recurring compliance themes, operational challenges, and areas requiring additional governance coordination or support. Coordinate meetings, workshops, briefings, and awareness initiatives involving the DPO network and operational stakeholders. 3 - Governance Support, Advisory Activities and Risk Management Contribute to advisory and governance activities relating to data processing initiatives, including support on DPIAs, project reviews, operational procedures, and data protection requirements. Ensure the identification, assessment, and documentation of data protection risks and operational compliance gaps. Contribute to the preparation of reports, dashboards, summaries, guidance material, and governance documentation supporting decision-making, oversight, and governance reporting. Ensure operational visibility of compliance activities, mitigation measures, and implementation progress across designated areas. 4 - Capacity Building, Awareness and Governance Improvement Strengthen awareness and understanding of data protection obligations within the Organization and among relevant stakeholders. Ensure the preparation and delivery of operational awareness sessions, presentations, guidance materials, and training activities. Continuously improve initiatives relating to governance maturity, effectiveness, and compliance monitoring capabilities. Maintain awareness of relevant developments, standards, and best practices in data protection, operational governance, and information management relevant to INTERPOL activities. 5 - Perform any other duty as required by the hierarchy. QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS Education and qualification required Three to four years of university degree in law, information governance, data protection, cybersecurity, information management, international public administration, or another relevant field. An advanced university degree would be considered as an asset. Relevant professional certifications in privacy, data protection, governance, risk, compliance, cybersecurity, or information management would be considered an asset. Experience required At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in data protection, compliance, governance, information management, cybersecurity, or related fields. Experience supporting compliance oversight, governance monitoring, advisory activities, or risk management initiatives in complex environments. Experience working in an international, governmental, law enforcement, regulatory, or multinational environment would be considered an asset. Experience engaging with multiple stakeholders across jurisdictions and cultures is highly desirable. Exposure to emerging technologies, digital governance, or AI-related governance matters would be considered an advantage. Languages Professional fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another official INTERPOL languages (Arabic, French, Spanish) is desirable. Abilities required
