Senior Safety Compliance Engineer Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI)’s Regulation & Certification Department is currently seeking a Vehicle Safety Regulatory Engineer for the Safety Certification & Regulation Team at our Superior Township, MI facility just east of Ann Arbor. HATCI’s Regulation & Certification Department helps support Hyundai and Kia vehicles to meet changing safety, environmental, and emissions standards at the federal, state, and local levels. Regulatory professionals research & analyze future regulatory trends to recommend internal action; guide the direction of company research; help to develop policy for public positions; and communicate with agencies such as National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and Federal Communications Commission (FCC). WHAT YOU WILL DO Review vehicle regulations and test procedures (FMVSS, state, & territories) from governmental entities (NHTSA, OVSC, NCAP, etc.) for product applicability and draft conclusion documents in clear and easily understandable language. Represent the company during various safety compliance or consumer information tests; investigate any potential compliance issues and propose solutions. Perform visual compliance audits on new products. Support vehicle homologation and self-certification efforts. Prepare reports and responses to inquiries in a timely manner Engage in cross-functional activities to support compliance efforts Perform administrative functions such as purchasing requests, travel requests, etc Perform additional functions related to motor vehicle safety regulations and technologies as assigned Other activities as required HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT Experience with regulations and regulatory processes pertaining to motor vehicle safety at an automotive OEM, supplier, or government agency such as NHTSA is an asset but not necessary Excellent communication skills, both written and oral Strong analytical skills Eagerness and capacity to learn Professional networking Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, high integrity, and ethical behavior Exceptional organization and time management skills Proficiency in MS Office WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE Bachelor’s degree in: Engineering or other analytical/technical fields Pre-law, law, or public policy 5+ years of experience Employee will have core compliance responsibilities but must be agile to support a dynamic landscape, both internally and externally. Domestic and international travel is associated with the position, not to exceed 20%. Candidates applying for positions with Hyundai KIA must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully.
