About the Role The Senior Project Engineer (Buildings, Civil & Structures) leads the planning, design development, procurement and technical delivery of the Utility Building, with primary responsibility for structural and civil works. The role provides technical leadership through design, procurement, construction and handover, coordinating consultants, subcontractors and multidisciplinary building interfaces to deliver an integrated, buildable and NCC-compliant outcome that meets safety, quality, cost and programme requirements. Accountabilities & Responsibilities Accountabilities Delivery of coordinated, buildable and NCC-compliant structural, civil and multidisciplinary building outcomes. Achievement of design, procurement, construction, certification and handover milestones. Effective management of consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and technical reviewers. Maintain design intent, compliance and technical assurance through construction and handover. Development of procurement packages that optimise cost, schedule, and risk outcomes. Identification and mitigation of design and construction risks. Responsibilities Lead development and coordination of structural and civil packages from detailed design through Building Permit / Issue for Construction, shop drawings, installation and technical close-out, maintaining design intent and coordinating structural, civil, architectural, façade, fire, building services and specialist supplier interfaces. Manage consultant, subcontractor and supplier design responsibilities, interfaces, deliverables, performance and technical submissions, including shop drawings, samples, prototypes, construction methodologies and close-out requirements. Review and challenge design and supplier submissions for NCC compliance, design intent, constructability, safety, quality, cost and programme impacts, and lead design coordination, compliance, constructability, value engineering and technical risk workshops. Develop procurement strategies, technical scopes, tender documentation, specifications and schedules for major work packages, clearly defining design, NCC, certification and interface requirements; lead tender evaluations and provide technical recommendations for subcontractor and supplier selection. Monitor design, procurement, technical approvals and supplier activities against programme and construction requirements, and manage technical procurement in alignment with budget, forecasting, programme and risk requirements. Support project planning and pre-construction from inception through execution, collaborating with estimating, commercial and delivery teams to establish construction methodologies, staging, logistics and project strategies, including early contractor and key supplier engagement. Identify and mitigate design, construction, programme, staging, logistics and constructability risks, and provide technical leadership through procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning and handover. Verify construction against approved documentation, NCC requirements, design intent, specifications and certified details; manage RFIs, design changes, departures, non-conformances and consultant or supplier deliverables; and support resolution of complex engineering and construction issues. Coordinate NCC, Building Permit, quality, safety, environmental, inspection, testing, certification and handover requirements, and obtain timely decisions and approvals from the Design Team, Building Surveyor, technical authorities, Project Owner and other stakeholders. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders, leading coordination meetings and technical workshops as required. Qualifications & Experience Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Construction Management or Building qualifications may be considered where supported by substantial project engineering experience on complex Australian buildings. At least 10 years’ relevant project engineering or construction delivery experience on complex, multidisciplinary Australian buildings regulated by the NCC. Strong knowledge of structural, civil and building construction, the NCC, Australian Standards, building approvals, construction methods and certification processes. Demonstrated experience coordinating architectural, structural, civil, façade, fire, building services and specialist subcontractor interfaces. Proven capability delivering building design through procurement, value engineering, shop drawings, construction and technical close-out, including supplier-designed systems and prefabricated assemblies. Experience managing consultants, subcontractors, design interfaces, technical risks, programme constraints, departures, RFIs, non-conformances and approvals.
