POSITION SUMMARY: Manages overall product line management strategy, priorities, and regular product management efforts for AE’s products. Manages the medical business unit (BU) product lines in international markets to achieve AE goals for revenue, profit, share, innovation & customer penetration. Defines the objectives of his or her staff of Product Managers and their interactions with other departments. RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages product line management function for the medical BU by shaping business context, targeting appropriate customer segments, guiding lifecycles of products and services, providing accurate forecasts, and managing profitability across organizational boundaries. Assesses business and market viability of new product concepts from Research and Development, Sales, Business Development, Strategic Marketing, Customers, or other inputs. Validates market requirements of target segments through market research (customer visits and secondary research). Works with internal and external stakeholders to set priorities for product development, balancing resources, schedules, & other tradeoffs. Manages Product Managers directly reporting to this position, including personnel items, budgets, activities, mentoring, morale, and skill development. Helps define the roles of Product Managers when interfacing with other departments, including Engineering, Strategic Marketing, Sales, Operations, Marketing Communications, and Customer Service. On an ongoing basis, makes certain these interfaces are working effectively in both directions. Judiciously follows AE processes, especially for product development, and when appropriate provides new tools and processes so Product Managers can carry out their work more effectively. With Marketing Communications, Strategic Marketing, Sales, Operations, and Service & Support, directs product introductions, competitive positioning, and pricing guidelines. With Marketing Communications, develops and implements product marketing strategies and programs to promote product and product lines Measures and reports performance in terms of revenue, profitability, market share, design wins, etc. of his or her product and service portfolio in support of Executive priorities and initiatives. Leads or delegates annual business planning process for assigned product lines. May be responsible for product management or other duties as assigned or necessary. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works in a standard office environment and uses general office equipment. Extended hours will be necessary depending on market conditions. Travel, both domestic and international, up to 25% of work time, is anticipated. This position has a significant number of interdepartmental communications. Since not all critical partners will report directly to this person, he or she must have the experience, presence, and communication skills to enlist support of managers and individual contributors across the company. This role is based in our Denver, Colorado office. Other locations that could be considered are Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Wilmington, Massachusetts. QUALIFICATIONS : Demonstrated leadership skills, managing a team. Excellent face-to-face communication skills and communication across international locations and in a matrix environment. Familiarity and track record with business to business negotiations. Ability to make effective decisions in the face of ambiguity. Good organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks. Ability to integrate technical and marketing concepts. Willingness to travel in support of company activities. Knowledge of AE customers, their applications, and the industries in which they participate. Understanding of the company’s products. Working knowledge of product marketing concepts. EXPERIENCE: 8+ years’ minimum experience as a Product Manager/Product Line Manager. 5+ years’ minimum experience managing a team of Product Managers, spanning a diverse portfolio of products. A minimum of 5 years Power Supply / Power Electronics market experience preferred. Product experience within the Medical Equipment market is highly desirable. Experience working with 3rd party Sales Representatives and Distributors preferred. EDUCATION: B.S. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Science, or equivalent required. Advanced degree, including M.S., Ph.D., or MBA, highly desirable. COMPENSATION: As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $150,000 to $210,000 per year.
