Position Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Lead Engineer to drive a multidisciplinary design team through AE’s Product Development Process to create new-to-world technology and differentiated products within the medical industry. Engineering in cork is focused on developing next-generation concepts for Electrosurgery generators, including pulsed electric field technologies, ablation treatments, and other surgical energy applications. This role also encompasses exploring high-efficiency power supply architectures for advanced applications in industry. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise in power electronics or other relevant areas with strong product development, test and manufacturing experience, fostering innovation and guiding a team of talented engineers toward breakthrough solutions within budget and on schedule. Essential Responsibilities: Team Leadership Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of engineers Drive career development through coaching, training, and performance management Cultivate a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence Research & Innovation: Contribute to the conception and development of advanced electrosurgical generators and related technologies Explore emerging technologies in power electronics, surgical energy delivery, and high-efficiency power conversion Translate research insights into practical prototypes and future product concepts Product Design: Design and analysis of systems products and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule and quality goals Diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions to address Assumes responsibility for the success of the product/system in the customers’ applications and recommend/implement corrective actions needed Follow key engineering procedures, including Product Development Process and Engineering Change Order processes Work with Advanced Development Engineers to review technology readiness to launch new products Collaborate with other development teams on larger products Collaborate with departments, such as New Product Implementation, purchasing, quality, program management, finance, safety, production, etc. Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards for medical devices Provide expert guidance on power electronics design, control strategies, and system integration Evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies for surgical energy applications Drive critical thinking and problem-solving across complex engineering challenges Work Environment: Location: Cork – on site Works in a standard office environment Domestic and International travel of up to 10% Interfaces with internal & external customers in all functional areas Technical and Professional Skills: Proven track record of developing power electronics prototypes and products Experience with influencing and negotiating in complex situations Advanced knowledge of power conversion topologies, high-frequency switching, and control systems Familiarity with electrosurgical technologies, pulsed electric fields, or ablation systems is highly desirable Strong problem-solving abilities Ability to solve complex problems independently Ability to undertake multiple projects and manage strategic priorities Strong coaching and mentoring skills Strategic thinker with a passion for innovation and technology exploration Well organized and disciplined Strong team player skills and mindset Technical and people leadership qualities Ability to make independent decisions with initiative and tact Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, R&D environment Experience/Education: Essential: Minimum bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering or similar field.
