Research mechanical concepts and create system solutions using 3D modeling and simulation software. Complete calculations and test, validate, and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the mechanical system that they have designed. The Staff Engineer, Mechanical Design works with cross functional teams of other engineers, customers, supply chain and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations. Detailed Description Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following: Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling. Provide technical leadership and direction to a sizable team of engineers. May be a recognized expert (go to person) in one or more technical areas Take responsibility for non-technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials etc.). Review and interpret customer requirements/specifications and may act as primary customer contract. Analyze trade-offs in complex systems and recommend solutions. Develops deployment strategies and plans. Lead the deployment of strategic complex programs and coordinate site-wide deployment efforts. May manage relationships with key vendors/partners. Prepare calculations on the proposed solution before completing technical drawings Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs. E.g. Sketch and draw up designs using input from other engineers, requirements and input from design review (DFx) team Create designs in line with company procedure, regulations and client standards Submit drawings to management, engineering teams and customers for review. Use customer feedback and data to upgrade, improve or repair the company's existing machines Provide support during the manufacturing process Finalize designs and send prints to the production department Knowledge/Skills/Competencies 1. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering 2. Min. 10+ years of direct working experience in mechanical design, prefer in switch, server and storage, etc. 3. Familiar with electronic product development process. 4. Ability to conceptualize, implement and validate a system level design and solution 5. Knowledge about Mechanical design fundamental, experienced at plastic and metal part design, and know about the tooling limitations 6. Product architecture experience including high level thermal analysis, EMC/ESD compliance, structural layout, plan of verification/validation test 7. Experience of design optimization based on FEA and CFD analysis results (structure, kinematics, and heat) is a PLUS 8. Proficient in using the CAD system, Pro/E Cero is required 9. Good Microsoft office skills in word, excel, PowerPoint 10. Fluent in both written and spoken English, ability to work in an international team 11. Good teamwork attitude, collaboration and communication skills 12. Business travel possible (include the oversea travel) Physical Demands Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully.
