This position performs complex diagnostics, major component overhauls, and advanced troubleshooting while supporting fleet reliability, equipment availability, and preventative maintenance initiatives. Working under the direction of Fleet Leadership, this role provides technical guidance to other technicians, assists with maintenance planning, and serves as a subject matter expert for diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and electronic controls. The Advanced Fleet Maintenance Technician utilizes the MaintainX Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to support maintenance strategy, work order management, asset lifecycle planning, equipment history tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives. Job Specifications: Starting Wage: [[otherCompensation]] Employment Type: [[filter2]] Shift Type: [[custFullPart]] hours available Minimum Age: [[MinorHires]] Housing Availability: [[commissionPack]] Our Fleet: Prinoth Snow Groomers equipped with Tier 4 Caterpillar Diesel Engines Heavy Equipment (Caterpillar, John Deere, Bobcat, New Holland) Snowmobiles (Yamaha, Ski-Doo, Arctic Cat) Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, and Dodge Fleet Vehicles Utility Trucks and Service Vehicles UTVs (Yamaha, Polaris, Kubota) Small Engine Equipment (Hustler, Scag) Material Handling Equipment Mountain Operations Support Equipment Job Responsibilities Live and work by Vail Resorts' Core Values: Serve Others, Do Right, Drive Value, Do Good, Be Safe, Have Fun, and Be Inclusive Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel, gasoline, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems across the resort fleet Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical failures with minimal supervision Lead troubleshooting efforts on snow groomers, heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and specialty equipment Perform major component repairs and overhauls including engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic pumps, hydrostatic drives, and final drives Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on Tier 4 diesel emissions systems, including DEF, SCR, DPF, and electronic engine controls Utilize OEM diagnostic software, multiplex systems, electronic service tools, and technical documentation to identify and correct equipment issues Perform seasonal fleet inspections and coordinate equipment readiness programs to support operational demands Inspect, repair, and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling, charging, steering, braking, suspension, and drivetrain systems Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Fleet Maintenance Technicians and seasonal maintenance personnel Assist Fleet Leadership with maintenance planning, repair prioritization, equipment evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives Utilize the MaintainX EAM system to create, manage, document, and close work orders while maintaining accurate equipment history records Analyze maintenance data, downtime trends, and recurring failure patterns to improve fleet reliability and equipment performance Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs through accurate documentation and asset management practices Assist with inventory control, parts planning, warranty administration, and vendor coordination Perform welding, fabrication, and custom repair solutions as required Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with company and regulatory requirements Follow all environmental, fleet, and workplace safety procedures Participate in ongoing technical training and professional development opportunities Collaborate with Mountain Operations, Facilities, and other resort departments to support year-round operations Perform other duties as assigned Additional Responsibilities Support Lift Maintenance operations during peak seasons, shutdown periods, and emergency maintenance events. Assist Lift Maintenance Technicians with preventative maintenance inspections of aerial lift equipment, terminals, sheave assemblies, hydraulic systems, and related mountain infrastructure. Assist with troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems associated with lift maintenance support equipment. Participate in cross-training initiatives between Fleet Maintenance and Lift Maintenance departments to improve operational flexibility and workforce development. Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable ANSI B77 standards, manufacturer recommendations, and company safety procedures when supporting lift-related maintenance activities. Assist with annual and major lift maintenance projects during seasonal shutdown periods. Perform fabrication, welding, machining, and custom repair solutions supporting both Fleet and Lift Maintenance operations. Provide technical expertise and mechanical support for large-scale off-season maintenance projects throughout the resort. Job Requirements Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy equipment, diesel technology, fleet maintenance, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, industrial equipment, or a related mechanical field required High School Diploma or GED required Technical school training, apprenticeship completion, or industry certifications preferred Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required Advanced ability to independently diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems Extensive experience with diesel engine diagnostics and repair required Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and advanced troubleshooting methods required Advanced understanding of electrical systems, multiplex wiring, sensors, electronic controls, CAN Bus systems, and computerized diagnostics required Experience working with Tier 4 diesel emissions systems required Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical manuals, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagram
