The Project Engineer will lead engineering valve and subsystem projects from cradle to grave by executing VACCO’s design and development process in accordance with internal procedures. They will prepare for and hold internal and external design reviews by thoroughly evaluating customer specifications and working with the integrated project team comprising program office, quality, supply chain and operations. The project engineer and program manager will be the face of the development program with the customer and maintain communication throughout the program lifecycle. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Respond to Contracts and Sales and Marketing request for quotation. Review customer, commercial and government specifications for new development programs and provide detailed scope of work estimates for recurring and non-recurring engineering. Coordinate, prepare and conduct thorough design reviews: Concept Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Design Certification, etc. Analyze engineering specifications and drawings; confer with quality, M&P, manufacturing and subcontractors to provide and obtain technical information to support the project. Work with design group to create engineering drawings, correct errors and implement design improvement through engineering change process. Investigate reports of defective, damaged, or malfunctioning parts, assemblies, equipment, or systems to determine nature and scope of problem and formulate root cause and corrective actions (RCCA). QUALIFICATIONS: Engineering or technical degree – preferably BSME 5 years minimum engineering experience in a design and manufacturing company of highly engineered components or similar system level operational and maintenance experience Familiarity with submarine pneumatic, sea water, freshwater and hydraulic systems and valves Experience with CAD software and analysis tools (MATLAB, etc) Requires U.S. Citizenship. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write clearly in English. Ability to speak effectively to subordinates, peers, managers, customers and suppliers. Many meetings are conducted in web-based systems (Teams, etc) PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Duties of this job include work from a computer at a desk and meetings much of the time, but also include laboratory testing indoors and outside. Some work may be conducted outside when temperatures are above 100°F or below 50°F. Lifting heavy equipment, rigging, assembly of large valves and setup of test stands are additional tasks. Test stands utilize high pressure gas, water, hydraulics or cryogenic fluids. VACCO engineers perform both engineering and technician tasks during development. WORK ENVIRONMENT: VACCO is a valve engineering and manufacturing facility with several buildings comprising the total campus all within walking distance. In addition to office cubicles there is a large machine shop, multiple inspection areas, indoor and outdoor test areas for acoustics, flow and operational performance testing.
