Responsibilities: Firmware development for embedded systems based on processors such as ARM Cortex M0 and M4 and Renesas H8 including design, coding, documenting, testing and maintenance. Minimum Requirements: MSc (Tech), BSc (Tech) or equivalent degree in automation engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, telecommunications engineering, communications engineering, electronics or a related field. 5+ years’ experience development in Embedded Systems. Working knowledge of C, typically using Windows based development environments. Understanding of embedded firmware systems & development programs utilizing bare metal C and RTOS. Basic understanding and knowledge of wireless communication interfaces and modules (BLE, LTE-M, NB-IoT, LoRAWAN) mixed signal electronics serial communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI) modules for satellite navigation systems (GNSS) and satellite communications (GlobalStar, Iridium) Ability to work with laboratory equipment needed for testing firmware Familiarity with other programming languages, Atlassian tools and git desired and beneficial Familiarity with relevant standards, regulations, directives and specifications in the field, such as EMC, environmental and safety is considered an advantage. Fluent written and spoken skills in English Duties: Follow safe work practices and procedures and ensure a “safety first” culture in every task undertaken. Advise the Systems Engineer and Engineering Manager of design or other issues affecting the development of appropriate software. Researching, designing, writing, documenting, and testing new software programs. Developing existing systems by analysis and identifying areas for modification. Maintaining systems by monitoring, identifying and correcting software defects. Investigating new technologies. Creating technical specifications and test plans. Writing software design documentation. Follow structured development Lifecyle’s for the development of all software. Working closely with other staff contributing to company objectives. Key contacts include systems engineers, test engineers, project managers and electrical engineers. Consulting clients/colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems and asking questions to obtain information, clarify details and implement information. Constantly updating technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and/or external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications. Participation in department improvement activities such as reviewing and updating engineering processes. Perform any other duties as reasonably directed. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
