PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES SAP Export Control is a central function responsible for ensuring SAP’s compliance with applicable export control and sanctions laws and regulations. It defines SAP’s export control and sanctions compliance policy, advises the company on legal requirements and best practices, and monitors SAP’s software and services deliveries. SAP Export Control further supports the company in analyzing and meeting export control and sanctions related requirements and in dealing with customers, partners, authorities and policymakers worldwide. SAP Export Control includes teams with an operational focus responsible for ensuring compliance through appropriate export control compliance processes and measures and a legal team that supports operations and other functions at SAP with legal advice and the implementation of new or changing regulatory requirements. SAP Export Control is based at SAP’s headquarters in Germany, with employees in Brazil, Germany, Greater China/Taiwan, India, Ireland, Netherlands, Philippines, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States of America. It closely interacts with global and local functions such as Data Protection, Global Legal, Office of Ethics and Compliance, Sovereign Cloud, and SAP Global Security. The Export Control Legal Team is looking for a Lead Senior Legal Counsel to support the global team as Regional Export Control Coordinator for the APAC region. EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS The Regional Export Control Coordinator is the main driver for export control and sanctions compliance in SAP’s Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and acts as a regional representative of the Export Control Team. The role requires building and leading a network of export control and sanctions champions, providing clear and actionable legal advice, and collaborating with impacted business units in their compliance efforts, all in an agile manner and within the complex and constantly changing export control and sanctions compliance environments. The Regional Export Control Coordinator´s main tasks include: Provide legal advice for activities relating to export control and sanctions compliance of software and services relevant to the APAC region. Interpret and explain complex export control and sanctions related compliance requirements and regulations applicable to the region in a business-friendly manner and assist in resolving related issues. Work closely with other members of the SAP Export Control Team, regional legal teams, local commercial teams and other functions at SAP, as required to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Assist with relevant export control and/or sanctions incidents and investigations within the APAC region. Cultivate a network of local export control experts in the various jurisdictions within the APAC region. Promote knowledge creation and sharing within the APAC region. Increase awareness of export control and sanctions compliance on management level. Analyze changes in local laws and support local implementation projects. Help strengthen the global export control and sanctions compliance community within SAP. Support the Export Control Team in case of supervisory authority requests within the APAC region. Monitor the local processes within the APAC region. Monitor export control and sanction legislation in collaboration with SAP’s Government Affairs team. Provide education and training sessions. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES Education and Qualifications Graduation from accredited law school; further technical degrees or certifications are a plus. Required skills Rich expertise in export control and sanctions compliance regulations, or rich expertise in compliance and strong desire to deepen understanding of export control and sanctions compliance laws for assigned region Strong organizational and preferably project management skills Excellent/Fluent written and spoken Chinese and English skills. Written and oral proficiency in other languages spoken in the assigned region would enhance the candidacy. Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey processes, policies, and advice in an understandable manner Strong C-level communication skill Assertive and convincing personality, high level of commitment and flexibility Good team-work skills Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with peers, internal clients, and external customers across different geographies, cultures and time zones. Ability to work and collaborate in an international environment WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum 10 years of work experience in the area of export controls and sanctions, either in the export control department, in the compliance department or in the legal department of an international company, in a law firm or consulting company specialized in export control and sanctions compliance, or equivalent.
