The Opportunity We’re looking for a Senior Application Engineer to join our Data & Technology Applications team and play a critical role in supporting and evolving the ahm and OSHC application landscape. In this role, you'll be responsible for the technical and functional maintenance of critical business applications, ensuring they remain reliable, secure, scalable and highly available. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, vendors and cross-functional technology teams to drive operational excellence, support business-critical systems, and identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvement. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced application support and operations professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading improvement initiatives, mentoring others, and influencing the future direction of application operations and platform stability. Key Responsibilities: Lead application optimisation and process improvement initiatives to enhance performance, reduce incidents and improve operational outcomes. Provide expert support for complex incidents and production issues, driving root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions. Manage application deployments, patching activities and environment health across production and non-production environments. Develop and maintain technical documentation, monitoring capabilities, support processes and disaster recovery plans. Partner with development teams, stakeholders and vendors to ensure reliable, secure and scalable application services. Support and mentor team members through coaching, knowledge sharing and technical leadership. Drive automation, DevSecOps and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, stability and service delivery. Must haves: Extensive experience supporting and maintaining enterprise applications within complex IT environments. Strong Linux administration experience, ideally with SUSE Linux or other Unix-based operating systems. Strong SQL skills and experience working with JSON and XML data formats. Experience with Python, Perl or similar scripting languages for automation and operational support. Strong knowledge of SOAP and REST APIs and event-driven technologies such as Kafka. Experience working with AWS Cloud environments. Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub, Jenkins and modern DevSecOps practices. Strong release, environment and deployment management experience. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Experience implementing automation and batch scheduling solutions. Experience working within Agile, cross-functional delivery teams. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while driving continuous improvement outcomes. That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
