At Oxford University Press (OUP), you'll have the opportunity to work with a global network of journal editors, learned societies, editorial offices, and publishing specialists to deliver world-class scholarly content. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the production of leading academic journals while building strong client relationships and driving continuous improvement across publishing workflows. As a Senior Journal Manager, you'll play a key role in shaping production processes, leading impactful projects, and supporting the development of colleagues within a collaborative and inclusive environment. Opportunity As a Senior Journal Manager – Production, you will act as a trusted partner for journal editors, learned societies, and editorial offices, ensuring their production requirements are delivered effectively and to the highest standards. Key responsibilities include: Managing relationships with external clients and serving as their primary production contact. Providing regular performance reporting, analysis, and recommendations to support client objectives. Advising clients on production workflows, process improvements, and potential risks. Coordinating and communicating production requirements across internal teams and external suppliers. Managing journal-level developments, updates, supplements, and workflow changes. Responding to client queries and resolving issues through effective stakeholder engagement. Leading and contributing to projects focused on quality improvement, standardization, and operational efficiency. Maintaining journal documentation, process guides, and escalation records. Supporting issue planning and publication schedules through effective workflow management. Building strong partnerships across Production, Editorial, and other publishing teams. Training, mentoring, and coaching colleagues while contributing to the ongoing development of team capabilities. Impact In this role, you will directly contribute to the successful publication of a large portfolio of scholarly journals and help deliver an outstanding experience for authors, editors, societies, and publishing partners. Your expertise will help drive operational excellence, improve production performance, and support OUP's commitment to publishing trusted academic research at a global scale. About You Essential Criteria Experience within a publishing environment. Significant experience in journal or content production, including handling complex or sensitive work. Experience managing client accounts and stakeholder relationships. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong presentation and relationship management skills. Excellent organizational and project management abilities. Strong negotiation and influencing skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies. Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate complex information. Good IT and software proficiency. Desirable Criteria Advanced computer and systems skills. Experience leading process improvement or operational excellence projects.
