Your area of work: Clearstream, part of the Deutsche Börse Group, is looking for a talented Software Engineer, Java to join our Post-Trade IT Settlement team in Prague. The Settlement department develops and supports mission-critical, real-time financial applications that enable global post-trade processing services. Our systems process high volumes of financial transactions and interact with major financial institutions worldwide, including the European Central Bank (ECB) and SWIFT . This is an exciting opportunity to work on highly scalable enterprise platforms that are central to the global financial ecosystem. Your responsibilities: As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of strategic settlement applications, working throughout the entire software development lifecycle. Developing / enhancing Java-based backend applications that manage customer and participant financial transactions. Supporting systems that serve as data repositories for customer-facing applications, reporting platforms, internal services, and reconciliation processes. Designing and implementing robust technical solutions aligned with business requirements. Building secure, high-performance, scalable, and maintainable applications while promoting system decoupling and modern architecture principles. Contributing to strategic initiatives involving new functionality development and modernization of existing Java backend platforms. Delivering enhancements, bug fixes, and maintenance activities before progressing to larger transformation projects. Participating in all phases of delivery, including requirements analysis, solution design, development, unit testing, functional testing, business testing, and production implementation. Developing a strong understanding of the broader settlement ecosystem and the integration points with other Clearstream platforms. Supporting software lifecycle activities, including planning, coordination, stakeholder communication, resource management, prioritization, and risk management. Ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements related to software development and documentation. Your profile: Master's degree or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. 2-3 years of hands-on experience in Java software development within a DevOps-oriented environment. Strong knowledge of: Java and JBoss EAP, Oracle databases, SQL, and Hibernate, Messaging technologies (JMS, AMQ), XML processing, OpenShift and Docker containerization, Linux Scripting and GitHub Ability to use AI in development Familiarity with Python and Jenkins for testing and automation activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Excellent teamwork and collaboration abilities. Strong communication skills and experience working effectively within geographically distributed teams. Ability to quickly adapt to established applications, processes, and development standards. Proven ability to manage multiple development streams and deliver results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Professional proficiency in spoken and written English. Would be an advantage: Experience with SWIFT messaging standards, particularly ISO 20022. Experience leveraging AI-powered tools and technologies within the software development lifecycle. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.

Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.

Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.

When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
