Transportation Manager

Purpose of the Job The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the transportation activities within the supply chain, ensuring efficient movement of goods and materials from suppliers to customers. This role focuses on optimizing transportation operations, reducing costs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining high service levels. The manager will lead a team of transportation coordinators and work closely with third-party logistics providers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods. Job Description Manage the daily transportation operations, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries of goods. Oversee the selection of carriers and third-party logistics providers. Ensure transportation activities align with company goals and customer expectations. Develop and implement strategies to reduce transportation costs without compromising quality or service. Negotiate contracts and rates with carriers, freight forwarders, and logistics providers. Monitor transportation budgets and generate reports on cost-effectiveness. Ensure all transportation activities comply with local, national, and international regulations. Oversee driver safety training and performance evaluations. Implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to track on-time deliveries, costs, and service levels. Continuously improve processes to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the transportation network. Monitor and evaluate the performance of carriers, drivers, and transportation personnel. Work closely with other departments such as procurement, warehouse, and customer service to ensure a seamless flow of goods. Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments with warehouse teams and suppliers. Leverage transportation management systems (TMS) to streamline processes and ensure real-time tracking of shipments. Recommend and implement technological solutions to enhance transportation efficiency. Provide regular reports on transportation metrics, such as delivery performance, cost per mile, and carrier performance. Use data analytics to identify trends and propose solutions for continuous improvement. Job Requirements - Experience and Education Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in transportation management, logistics, or supply chain operations. In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, including DOT, hazardous materials, and customs requirements. Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and fleet management software.
