Together we create and sustain Corning’s manufacturing as a differential advantage. Role Purpose Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects. Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost. Understands Corning's Intellectual property management processes and follows that process in documenting any intellectual property developed as part of a project Key Responsibilities Meet with sponsor to develop system requirements, establish design constraints, and set priorities Lead brainstorming and other ideation activities related to system engineering and measurement technologies Design and execute experiments to evaluate novel measurement technologies based on optical, electrical, and other contrast mechanisms Design and build lab-scale instrumentation as proof-of-concept prototypes for inspection challenges Communicate testing results and project progress to team members Integrate new systems and new technologies into Development and Manufacturing lines Transfer new technologies to equipment and process receivers, provide remote system support, and develop system documentation Capture intellectual property in the form of Invention Disclosures, Technical Reports, and Patent Applications. Travel Requirements Some domestic and international travel, based on project requirements up to 30%+ Experiences/Education - Required MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Sience, Mechanical, Opto-electrical or relevant field. Required Years of Experience 5~10 yearsˇ experience minimum. Strong technical expertise in Optics, Machine Vision (image processing), AOI integration, Machine learning, Inspection algorithm Expertise with Halcon, or other Machine Vision toolset Expertise with broad range of optical and non-optical-based sensors and technologies (including cameras, vision system, lighting, and interferometers) Ability to manage, prioritize, and execute multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with VB.Net, C# programming languages Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse technical and non-technical audience, including native English speakers. Ability to work effectively in a small team be cooperative, flexible, and respectful, communicate constructively, show commitment, and work toward a common goal. Experiences/Education - Desired Deep understanding of statistical methods measurement system analysis, design of experiment, error analysis, etc. Expertise with LabView, Simulink, MatLab, or other system prototyping and data analysis software Experience with Manufacturing Engineering Excellence, Process Excellence, Reliability testing, and other approaches for framing challenging problems Project management and expertise Experience with designing and executing Measurement System Analyses (MSAs) Expertise with SolidWorks or other CAD drawing package Expertise with PLC system design and deployment Expertise in data analysis, including visualization of complex sets, classification and correlation analysis using SVM or MLP, regression analysis, and other statistical methods Expertise in ergonomic design considerations including GUI layout and workstation optimization Experience with motion control software Experience leveraging external suppliers and system integrators to design, build, and install system components or full systems in manufacturing environment Excellent presentation skills Corning is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and considers requests for reasonable accommodations in accordance with applicable laws. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
