Job Description SQL Database Administrator (SQL DBA)About the Role We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator (SQL DBA) to manage, monitor, secure, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments supporting mission-critical business applications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring database availability, backup reliability, performance optimization, security compliance, and proactive monitoring across multiple production databases. Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments (SQL Server 2016/2019/2022).Manage and support more than 300 production databases while ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal performance.Monitor database health, storage utilization, and server performance on a daily basis.Maintain local copies of production databases for validation, testing, and administrative activities.Backup, Restore & Disaster Recovery Design, monitor, and maintain SQL Server backup and recovery strategies.Perform daily restore validation to verify backup integrity and disaster recovery readiness.Restore production database backups using backup automation tools (e.g., SQLBackupAndFTP) from NAS or centralized backup storage.Validate backup recoverability and publish daily database validation reports.Ensure business continuity by maintaining reliable backup and recovery processes.Database Integrity & Monitoring Execute and monitor DBCC CHECKDB and other database integrity checks on scheduled intervals.Develop, automate, and maintain SQL Server Agent Jobs for routine administrative tasks.Configure proactive SQL Server monitoring jobs and alerts for:Long-running queriesBlocking sessionsDatabase growth monitoringSQL Server error log monitoringBackup failuresDatabase health statusGenerate monthly database growth and health reports.Performance Optimization Monitor and optimize SQL Server performance.Analyze execution plans and identify performance bottlenecks.Perform query tuning, index optimization, and statistics maintenance.Investigate and resolve blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention.Recommend database optimization strategies to improve application performance.Database Security Manage SQL Server logins, users, roles, and permissions.Implement database security best practices and access controls.Configure security settings such as DENY VIEW DEFINITION and other permission restrictions where applicable.Develop and maintain data masking procedures for non-production environments.Ensure compliance with organizational data security standards.Development & Support Collaborate with application development teams on database design, schema changes, stored procedures, and performance improvements.Develop and maintain T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, views, functions, and triggers.Provide production database support and troubleshoot database-related issues.Document database configurations, maintenance activities, incidents, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Required Skills & Technical Expertise 48 years of hands-on experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA.Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022.Excellent knowledge of T-SQL, Stored Procedures, Functions, Views, Triggers, and Dynamic SQL.Strong understanding of SQL Server backup, restore, and recovery strategies.Experience with SQL Server Agent Jobs, scheduling, and automation.Hands-on experience with DBCC CHECKDB and database integrity validation.Expertise in query optimization, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and performance tuning.Experience monitoring SQL Server performance, blocking sessions, deadlocks, and long-running queries.Knowledge of SQL Server security including logins, users, roles, permissions, and data protection.Experience implementing data masking techniques for test and non-production environments.Familiarity with backup automation tools such as SQLBackupAndFTP or equivalent solutions.Experience working with NAS or centralized backup storage systems.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.Good documentation and communication skills.Preferred Skills Knowledge of SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery (Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Replication, Database Mirroring, or Clustering).Experience with PowerShell scripting or SQL automation.Exposure to performance monitoring and database administration tools.Experience supporting enterprise-scale production environments.Key Competencies Database AdministrationSQL Server Performance TuningBackup & Disaster RecoveryDatabase SecurityMonitoring & AutomationT-SQL DevelopmentRoot Cause AnalysisProduction SupportDocumentation & Process ManagementTeam CollaborationBenefits: Health insuranceProvident FundWork Location: In person .
