Senior Integration Engineer (FHIR / HL7 / APIs) Role Senior Integration Engineer (FHIR/HL7/APIs) Location / Count Offshore - 3 Positions Experience Range 8-12+ years preferred Employment Type Full-time / Project-based staffing Role Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Integration Engineer with deep expertise in FHIR, HL7, APIs, and healthcare interoperability solutions. The role will lead the design, development, optimization, and support of complex integrations across healthcare systems and EMR platforms, while providing technical leadership and mentoring to the engineering team. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement complex healthcare integrations using FHIR, HL7, REST APIs, and middleware technologies.Lead solution design and architecture discussions for interoperability initiatives.Develop and optimize integration workflows, mappings, transformations, and routing logic.Build scalable and resilient integration services using Java, Spring Boot, and Apache Camel.Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering best practices and design patterns.Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues related to integration services.Optimize integration performance, reliability, and scalability across healthcare systems.Collaborate with product owners, architects, EMR vendors, and business stakeholders.Guide and mentor junior and mid-level engineers on interoperability standards and integration best practices.Support CI/CD, deployment automation, and cloud-based integration solutions.Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5+ years focused on healthcare integrations.Strong hands-on experience with HL7 v2.x, HL7 FHIR, RESTful APIs, Apache Camel, Java/J2EE, and Spring Boot microservices.Experience integrating with healthcare systems, EMRs, HIEs, payer systems, and third-party healthcare platforms.Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning skills.Experience with API lifecycle management and middleware platforms.Knowledge of software design patterns and enterprise integration patterns.Preferred Qualifications Experience with major EMR platforms such as Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, Allscripts, Meditech, or Athenahealth.Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.Previous experience leading small-to-medium integration teams.Key Competencies / Skills Interoperability Engineering Leadership & Operations Advanced FHIR/HL7 expertise Apache Camel and integration frameworks Technical leadership and mentoring FHIR R4 and HL7 v2.x standards Java and Spring Boot microservices Production support and incident resolution API design and interoperability workflows Middleware technologies and design patterns Stakeholder communication Patient identity and care coordination flows Debugging and performance tuning Delivery ownership and quality reviews Healthcare / EMR Domain Exposure Electronic Medical Record (EMR) integrations and healthcare data exchange workflows.Patient demographics, patient identity exchange, ADT, orders, results, scheduling, and clinical workflows.Care coordination and interoperability initiatives across provider and payer ecosystems.Healthcare terminology standards, vendor-specific interoperability patterns, and secure healthcare data handling.HIPAA-compliant development practices and data privacy awareness.Training / Certifications Preferred Certification / Training Area Examples Interoperability HL7 v2 certification, HL7 FHIR certification, healthcare interoperability certifications Middleware / API MuleSoft, Apigee, middleware/API management certifications Cloud / DevOps AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud certifications; DevOps fundamentals Compliance HIPAA and healthcare compliance training Success Metrics Successful delivery of integration initiatives within agreed timelines.High-quality, reliable, secure, and scalable interoperability solutions.Reduced production incidents and faster issue resolution.Improved integration performance and operational stability.Effective mentoring and technical enablement across the engineering team.Compliance with healthcare interoperability, privacy, and security standards. .
