Part-Time Cost Accountant (Manufacturing / Job Costing) West Coast (Remote) Position Type: Part-time Location: West Coast (US) remote; must be available during Pacific Time business hours Overview We are seeking a West Coast-based Cost Accountant with strong job costing experience in a manufacturing environment to support our part-time finance needs. This role will own key elements of full-cycle accounting and month-end close, maintain accurate job cost reporting, and help support a system transition from E2 Shoptech to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting / Job Costing Maintain and analyze job cost details (labor, materials, outside processing, overhead) and ensure costs are accurately captured and allocated. Reconcile job cost WIP to the general ledger and assist with WIP reporting, margin analysis, and variance review. Partner with operations/shop leadership to resolve job costing discrepancies and improve data accuracy. Full-Cycle Accounting Manage or support AP/AR workflows, including vendor bills, customer invoicing, collections, and payment processing. Maintain general ledger accuracy through journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Assist with payroll accounting entries and related reconciliations (as applicable). Month-End Close Own/assist month-end close activities: accruals, revenue/cost recognition entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Prepare monthly reporting packages (P&L, balance sheet, cash, job profitability) and provide insights on drivers/variances. Systems & Process Improvement Work in E2 Shoptech accounting initially; support transition planning and data cleanup/mapping for QuickBooks Online. Document workflows and strengthen internal controls and close procedures. Recommend process improvements to streamline job costing and accounting operations. Required Qualifications 3+ years of accounting experience with significant job costing in a manufacturing company (machine shop/contract manufacturing experience is a plus). Strong understanding of WIP, inventory, and manufacturing cost flows. Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close. Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic modeling). Preferred Qualifications Experience with E2 Shoptech (Shoptech) and/or QuickBooks Online. Experience supporting an accounting/ERP software transition. Familiarity with outside processing, standard vs. actual costing concepts, and job profitability reporting. Work Schedule & Expectations Part-time hours (estimated 1025 hours/week, flexible based on month-end close needs). Must be able to collaborate during Pacific Time business hours (at least a few hours overlap weekdays). High attention to detail, confidentiality, and ability to work independently. What Success Looks Like Clean, timely month-end close with accurate reconciliations and clear financial reporting. Reliable job costing data that supports accurate margin reporting and operational decision-making. Smooth progression through the E2 QBO transition, with improved workflows and documentation.
