ResponsibilitiesExtracting relevant information from patient recordsExamining documents for missing informationAssigning CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9/ICD-10-CM, APC, DRG and ASA codesEnsuring documents are grammatically correct and free from typing errorsPerforming chart auditsInforming supervisor of issues with equipment and computer programEnsuring compliance with medical coding policies and guidelinesEnsuring that codes tally with doctors diagnosesKeeping updated about new coding rules as codes change from time to timeCollecting and distributing coding related information and billing issuesQualificationsLife Science graduation or any equivalent graduation with Anatomy/Physiology as main subjects2 to 4 years of work experience as a medical coderAny one of the following coding certifications: CPC, COC, CRC, CPCP from AAPCCCS, CCSP, CCA from AHIMAProficient computer skillsExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenStrong people skills & outstanding organizational skillsAbility to maintain the confidentiality of informationPhysical DemandsRegular eyehand coordination and manual dexterity required to operate office equipmentAbility to perform work at a computer terminal for 68 hours a day and function in an environment with constant interruptionsMay be subject to sitting for prolonged periodsInfrequently must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs.May experience elevated levels of stress during periods of increased activity and with work entailing multiple deadlines .
