Job Summary A technically sound and execution-focused Application Engineer to lead solution development, integration and delivery of robotic and industrial automation systems. This role bridges concept design and engineering execution by owning application-level architecture, coordinating interdisciplinary teams and supporting on-ground deployment. The candidate will lead detail engineers (mechanical & software) and work closely with customers, vendors and internal teams to develop advanced automation solutions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in mechatronics and/or automation software, hands-on commissioning experience and the ability to translate functional requirements into reliable system designs. Key Responsibilities Solution Architecture & Engineering Planning: Lead technical definition and architecture of automation and robotic systems, including layout planning, subsystem selection and performance targets. Evaluate project feasibility, component selection (sensors, actuators, PLCs, drives, robots) and risk assessment. Translate user and functional requirements into system specifications and engineering deliverables. Team Coordination & Technical Oversight Supervise and guide Detail Engineers (Software and Mechatronics) in design detailing, programming, system integration and documentation. Review engineering drawings, control logic, BOMs, and test procedures for accuracy and completeness. Conduct design reviews and ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards. System Integration & Commissioning Own end-to-end integration of mechanical and software systems for industrial automation setups. Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and on-site commissioning. Troubleshoot system-level issues during integration, provide resolution strategies and drive field improvements. Customer & Vendor Coordination Serve as the technical point of contact for customer queries, requirements clarification and solution demonstration. Liaise with external vendors and suppliers for custom parts, integration kits, and support during build and deployment phases. Documentation & Knowledge Management Ensure preparation of comprehensive technical documentation including SRS, I/O lists, user manuals and commissioning reports. Capture learning from each deployment and contribute to standardization and reusability across projects. Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechatronics / Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation Engineering. 68 years of hands-on experience in robotics, industrial automation, or special-purpose machines (SPMs). Strong understanding of both mechanical and control software aspects of automation systems. Proven track record in leading multi-disciplinary teams for automation solution delivery. Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), PLC/SCADA platforms (Siemens, Rockwell, Codesys), and industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA). Exposure to robot programming (ABB, KUKA, FANUC, UR, etc.) is a strong advantage. Key Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent coordination, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to work in fast-paced environments and manage field execution challenges. Willingness to travel for site installations and commissioning support. .

That number is real. WorkMundi's database shows 144,883 open engineer roles across the world. India has the most with 31,687 jobs, followed by the United States with 30,084. If you just finished reading one job ad and felt paralyzed by choice, you're not alone—but this scale is actually an advantage. It means you can afford to be selective.
Start by geography and language. The majority of engineer ads—117,837 of them—have the job posting text written in English. Use that as one filter, but remember: the ad text language tells you nothing about whether the role actually requires you to speak English day-to-day. Read the job description carefully. Then check which countries have the volume you're targeting. Singapore, Poland, and Australia round out the top five after India and the US.
Next, learn who's hiring. Accenture has posted 2,801 engineer roles. andurilindustries, speechify, and jobgether are also actively recruiting. If you're applying to one of these names, research their hiring patterns and interview style before you apply. That homework pays off.
When you interview, expect the question every engineer hears: 'Tell me about a time you had to debug a problem that wasn't in your job description.' Have a specific story ready—not a general one. Name the tools, the deadline pressure, and what you learned. Hiring managers listen for whether you see problem-solving as part of the role itself, not a favour.
